Hi: I am trying to learn footprint reading and have got some valuable info from this site. However, I am not entirely sure which Footprint indicator/ platform I should get. I am presently evaluating Fin-Alg MarketBalance for NT8, GOMI for NT8, MZPack for NT8. I believe the gold standard was MarketDelta and its replacement is IRT + DeltaPrint.

While MarketDelta was expensive, for a small newbie like me, an upfront commitment for Fin-Alg or GOMI (about USD 600-700) seems to be also fairly high when compared MZPack (USD100). However, it appears to me that either something is a miss with my settings or MZPack as the volume and delta numbers across the above indicators are matching except for MZPack.

Any guidance would be great. I am not hooked on to NT8 and if there is another platform then that would be fine too, so long as, I can learn without burning a big hole in my pocket and when I find the tool useful then one could go for some extra expense.

I purchased mzFootprint and mzBigTrade only. With the trial, I would recommend understanding how to use the COT setting as this has really help time my entries. https://www.mzpack.pro/2018/06/14/what-is-cot-and-how-to-use-it-in-day-trading/

Attached is a free footprint indicator I found here in FIO. (I'm sorry not to recall who made it as to give credit for it). I use it for the Fade Text and Show Delta.

Good luck and trade well.

Well, since you are from India your concern probably is more to do with the getting legit data. Data required for footprint can't be just anything you buy for Rs 500, it needs to come from some one like global data feed. If you are wondering about pricing, its pro pack costs around INR 45K per year for FNO and NSE. And that too limited scripts.

As for the software, Fin-alg package (Market profile + Orderflow) is commonly used in India, if you know where to get it you can even get it for free. Depending on where you get it, it can range from Free to INR 80k for life time license.

But that's not the issue, data is, I would humbly suggest you to check with someone in India and especially in your locality for data performance. If you do not have good feed no matter the output software you wont get the best results.

Notable user of Market profile and Orderflow in India is Dean, he even has YouTube channel as well as telegram. I would suggest to inquire there.

Please note that I'm not related to dean or any company, I do not use Orderflow anymore. I'm only sharing my problems with the same adventure I had taken a year back. I had to eventually give up due to data issue and settle with some other things.

After spending hours and hours tweaking settings for ES, one just needs to trade live. SIM is only good to practice execution. I would recommend reading the order flow off the emini charts and trade micros if account is not large enough.

Trade well.

Awesome - Thanks @Pocketful - I will play around with these settings and report back on live trades.

Thanks LastDino for your inputs. Have been a data subscriber to GDFL earlier but now am taking it from TrueData as it works on both NT and Amibroker. Fairly new stuff for me so am probably exploring it still. Am trying to get some fundamentals through and then set up the charts on OrderFlow to see if this could be something that works for me. Not sure about the issue about data feed but since you are based out of Mumbai, may be you have experience on the latency related aspects impacting decision making. Will explore Dean's forum too, thanks for the lead. Stay safe.
