Guys, I have a 1 minute database here. I downloaded the Unirenko that is available at ninjatrader forum. I dont know it this one is already patched against the memory leak bug or if its an older version, but it seems I cant open my historical chart in Unirenko, or any other kind of custom bars, as range, normal renko etc. I can do it in time bars, tough.
I don't think your 1 minute historical data will work because the way UniRenko and Range bars are calculated.
Bars such as range and UniRenko are calculated by tick data, and rules for creating new bars inherently per tick data. A good example is that a range of a 1 minute bar which is your smallest precision of historical data you have could have a low to high range of 50 ticks. Therefore if you're using a UniRenko or Range bar which are created every 6 ticks in range, there would be no way the business logic in the custom bar to be able to know this with just minute data.
I hope I've been clear enough with my explanation.
If you're in Ninja Trader it is worth getting your hands on tick data or download directly in ninja trader tick data if you have a data service provider like CQG, IQFeed etc.
There's many others on this board who can help you with this ;-)
Thank you very much for you explanation, Mr traderdavidt.
About the Unirenko itself, do you think the version I have (from ninjatrader forum) is good enough to trade, or do you think its better to buy others like better renko (elite membership) or Rjays Spectrum2? I saw some people talking about some errors and stuff, so I am a bit afraid. I ask this because, to be able to trade using ninjatrader, I'll have to spend quite a high percentage of my available capital, so it must be worth it.
The possibility of chart trading will make my life 1000% easier, thats why Im considering investing so much (trading plataforms here in brazil are extremelly lame).
The SveRenko bar type, has a period setting called "Session Breaks (1=Y, 2=N)" as shown in the attached screenshot. When the Session Breaks is set to "2=N", the usual session gap suffered by all Renko bar types (except the in-built NinjaTrader Renko and RJays Renko) at session breaks is resolved. In other words, SveRenko (with Session Breaks set to "2=N") behaves exactly like NinjaTreader Renko and RJays Renko at session breaks.
My request is:
Can the UniRenko bar type be modified to have the Session Breaks setting option by adapting the codings in SveRenko ?
I have a session break to force a new Onbarupdate to end my day. My system runs perpetually. I want my strategy to know when it is a new day. It is my understanding that Time[0] is the date and time of the last completed bar. Thus it does not have the current date. If this is true then I need to wait for the second bar to end to know that that date has changed. Is there a way to know the date has changed with the first tick of the day short of changing my OnBarUpdate to be tick by tick.
One way is just to set the CalculateOnBarClose variable to false instead, then use the FirstTickOfBar and Bars.FirstBarOfSession variables and separate the code sections in OBU, e.g:
