Feedback on a couple more items about Advanced Search
Item 1
Been trying to look for this specific post of mine. I knew the post contained the text "Does this help?", so that's what I keyed in the Search by Keyword, as shown:
However the site returns a "Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms.", despite the exact string being there.
I tried this both with and without question mark being conscious it may be parsed as wildcard.
I also tried both with initial upper case and lower case, but no luck.
In many instances the search with quotes returns the expected results - but not always. This is one example.
EDIT: When the search I described fails, the original search string is changed as follows
Item 2
When searching for the above the forum now offers the default of "search by post" as opposed to "search by thread". However when it returns a result of "Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms." the default is automatically switched to "search by thread"
I've found the same with many simple word searches, I just assumed that search wasn't a priority issue but will also mention it as you have reported it.
If you type it without quotes you'll see this message:
There are limits on the current search system, this is one.
As for it flipping the threads/posts option after an error, yes I duplicated that but unlikely to fix it. Sorry. It is only an issue if your search has zero matches, and the search screen is refreshed.
Seems good at the moment Mike. I have definitely seen a problem on multiple occasions, but that is over the last few years so maybe transient indexing or whatever I don't know. I can't find an obvious reproduction at the moment, will let you know if I do though, thanks.
