I wanted to know if anyone has ever found a solution to be able to use the NinjaTrader 8 ATM function for trading equities in the pre or post market?

I trade equities using Interactive Brokers via the API, with the NinjaTrader 8 ATM Chart Trader.

The issue is that the ATM for equities only supports SELL STP orders. In order to execute sell orders outside of real trading hours, these orders have to be SELL STP LMT orders.

Essentially, for Equities outside of RTH - NT8 ATM orders are totally useless.

I have reached out to the NT team, and there is a feature request under reference number: SFT-3711. This has been there since 2018, which of course means there is no desire to fulfil this feature request.


I am looking for any free methods, or tools that can support ATM SELL STP LMT? Maybe a 3rd Party add on?

You will have to create OCO limit orders for your position. Right click on the Chart Trader and select OCO, then place limit orders above and below your Entry. When one of the limit orders are hit, your opposing limit will be cancelled. When you are done placing your limit orders, remember to remove the OCO check...so you can make any new order entires. I'm sure this could be coded, but I never needed it being a swing trader and having ample time to manage my position.

You can always practice this using SIM until you get comfortable with it.


For the ATM you could just check the box for "Stop limit for Stop Loss" under more when you make a custom ATM.

I'm familiar with the button mentioned.

This button is for Futures and Forex only when dealing with ATM.

It does not work for Equities, as per the design of ATM orders.
It works fine for a manually entered OCA as suggested.

Can you pop your vote onto the SFT at NT?
Seems there are only 3 people who have requested Sell Stop Limit orders for Equities in the last 3 years from what I can see.
Very surprising considering these spells of activity during the pre and post markets.
