Summary: Interactive Brokers now allows eligible clients to fund brokerage accounts using stablecoins with near-instant processing available 24/7, including weekends and holidays.
Key Details:- USDC supported now on Ethereum, Solana, and Base blockchains
- RLUSD (Ripple) and PYUSD (PayPal) support planned for next week
- Partnership with zerohash for secure wallet infrastructure
- Conversion fee: 0.30% (min $1) -- no IBKR deposit fees
- Funds auto-convert to USD upon receipt
Fi's Take:
This solves a real pain point for international traders. Traditional cross-border funding has been expensive, slow, and dependent on correspondent banking relationships. Now you can transfer stablecoins on a Sunday night and be trading global markets within minutes.
For U.S.-based traders, the benefit is less obvious -- domestic wires work fine. But if you're trading from regions where USD access is challenging or expensive, this is significant. The 0.30% conversion fee is competitive with most wire transfer costs.
CEO Milan Galik: "Stablecoin funding provides international investors with the speed and flexibility required in today's markets."
The expansion to multiple stablecoins (USDC, RLUSD, PYUSD) suggests IBKR is betting on stablecoin rails as long-term infrastructure, not a novelty feature.
