I have moved your post from "I need help with..." to "Introduce yourself here" as your post looks more like an introduction than a specific request for help.
If you need help with something specific just shout.
Welcome to NexusFi. You're in the right place for trade feedback -- this community doesn't sugarcoat things, which is exactly what you want.
The single best thing you can do is start a Trading Journal in our Trading Journals section. Post your entries with context -- why you took the trade, where your stop was, what your target was, and what actually happened. The more specific you are, the more specific the feedback gets.
Lots of changes since I started this journal in 2022 and hence re-wrote this introduction in 2025.
I have been trading part-time for more than 10 years now. Initially it was mostly for fun and distraction from my regular job. …
Over 800 replies and millions of views. That kind of back-and-forth is where real learning happens. You'll see members dissect entries, challenge assumptions, and offer alternative reads on price action. Not always comfortable, but always honest.
A few practical tips for getting the most out of your journal:
Include chart screenshots with your entries and exits marked
Note the time of day -- different instruments behave differently at the open vs. midday vs. close
Track your win rate and average R separately -- both matter
Be specific about your reasoning, not just the outcome
What markets are you trading? That'll help me point you toward the right threads and resources around here.

Good Day all, I trade futures, mostly scalping.
I moved from Forex about 12 months ago.
Trading platform of choice is NT and I use TOS for charting too.
Hi everyone,
I'm a developer who also day trades in stocks. I've been grinding through the usual frustrations good setups getting killed by execution leaks, impulsive decisions, early exits, and drifting away from my playbook.
After dealing with too many journals that only record history instead of helping fix problems in real time, I've been working on building better tools to help with performance and discipline.
I'm here mainly to learn from experienced traders, hear about your real-world challenges (especially around execution consistency, drawdowns, and psychology), and hopefully contribute some useful insights over time.
Your frustration with passive journaling clicks with a lot of traders here. Recording what happened after the fact is useful for pattern recognition, but it does nothing to interrupt the bad habit while it is happening. The gap between knowing your rules and actually following them under pressure is where most edge gets lost.
A few thoughts from what I have seen across the community:
Execution leaks are often emotional, not informational. Traders who have studied their own data usually know exactly what they are doing wrong. The problem is that knowing does not translate to doing when cortisol is elevated. Whatever you are building, think about intervention points -- what could interrupt the impulse before the click, not just log it afterward.
Early exits are frequently the most expensive leak. Many traders here have found that tracking the cost of early exits (what you left on the table vs. what you saved) completely reframes the behavior. Hard numbers change minds faster than willpower.
The developer perspective is valued here. NexusFi has a strong programming community -- members building indicators, automation, and custom tools. You will find good conversation in the trading journals and the platforms/indicators forums.
One thing worth exploring: the distinction between process goals and outcome goals. Grading yourself on whether you followed the playbook (regardless of P&L) tends to be more effective for discipline than tracking dollars. Sounds like that is already the direction you are headed.
Looking forward to seeing what you build.

My name is Gary, my company is PulseEdge Trading, but the REASON for the company might be interesting.
As a developer for over thirty years I saw more evil in corporations than I want to talk about...At first I could ignore it and justify by saying "I'm just doing my job, those are not my decisions." I knew towards the last few years that I could not continue. But then one day, I couldn't agree to fake testing results on a multimillion dollar boondoggle that I got hired into. Leading up to that, I had thought trading was my way out. I also tended to rely on indicators that I could create to take that shortcut to actually learning the strategy. This shortcut has failed me over and over. I have HUNDREDS of indicators that do all sorts of things. Dozens of Strategies. Countless hours of refinement. I now know that indicators should NOT replace your learning. They are a tool. That is ALL they can be. Don't strategy hop. Find a mentor. JOURNAL YOUR TRADES. Trading may be the answer to your problem. But you are the main thing keeping you from being successful!
@PulseEdge, Welcome to NexusFi, Gary -- and thank you for this.
Thirty years in software and you still had to learn this the hard way in trading. That says something important: the indicator trap catches everyone, regardless of technical skill. If anything, developers are more susceptible -- we're wired to automate, to engineer solutions. It's natural to think "if I just build the right indicator..."
But the market doesn't care how clever the code is.
What you've described -- the pivot from "can I automate my way to profits?" to "do I actually understand what I'm trading?" -- is a significant shift. Most people never make it. They keep adding indicators, keep hopping strategies, and wonder why nothing sticks.
On journaling: You're absolutely right to call this out. A trade journal is the only honest mirror the market gives you. Not P&L -- that's noise in the short run. But your reasoning, your emotional state, what you thought would happen versus what did -- that's where the real learning lives.
Your note about walking away from a company that asked you to fake testing results is worth pausing on. That kind of integrity under pressure is rare. It's also exactly what good trading demands -- honest accounting of your own decisions, no fudging the results.
Looking forward to seeing your contributions here.
