Something to keep in mind for the ensuing turf war. Firstly,...if you haven't used BOTH platforms extensively, then you have no opinion to post.
For those that have used both, you will probably find more balanced reviews of each platform listing pro's and con's for both. If not, then it is clear you haven't used both and have no opinion to post.
I used Ninjatrader +-12 hours every single day for just over a year. A while back I gave Sierra a try for various reasons. I now list Sierra as my predominant and favorite platform out of the two.
Don't be a fan boy. Try both platforms (for free) and decide which you like best. Then feel free to post informed two sided reviews
A couple reasons why I now prefer Sierra:
- It's a lot faster (this includes initial startup, loading charts, historical data etc)
- Adding indicators (including more data intensive ones such as volume profile studies) is faster
- I prefer the Sierra payment model (without going into too much detail,...Sierra's payment model promotes quick fixes and feature additions. NT's model promotes complacency)
- Spreadsheet analysis!
- Rectangle tool - This may seem small to some people but this is extremely annoying in NT. Long rectangles simply disappear in NT. This is an issue they have known about for several years yet it persists. (complacency?)
- Managing separate contracts within an order is far easier in Sierra. For example if I have a 3 contract position and only want to move the stop for 1 of those contracts. Easy, just do it.
Just a few reasons off the top of my head to add to or reiterate what has already been mentioned in the thread.
One quick comment about payment models... be sure to take into account the average amount of time the purchaser will subscribe to the product vs buying it lump sum. What I mean is take into account how long people survive in the business. I am talking about on average of course.
Based on what I believe to be true, that would favor NinjaTrader's one time payment model as far as providing more financial stability to the company. When people enter this profession they dream of riches and they will invest in what they need (ie software, hardware, funded account) but many of them are done with trading inside of six months.
