When I was about 2 years through college, about 2.5 years ago, I fell in love with learning about the market and decided I didn't want to end up in a job that I hated for most of my life, so I started learning as much as I could about the markets. I think I went through a lot of different stages of learning, looking at indicators (searching for the holy grail, price action, wanting to give up at points bc I was discouraged, etc.), it was necessary to get where I am today and will hopefully be down the road.
Anyways, I owe the greatest thanks to Big Mike and Sharky (and many others who have posted a lot of great information that I have drawn inspiration from). I know I still have a lot to learn and that will always be the case, but I can honestly say I have made the largest strides when I started reading all the threads I could on this forum, especially Sharky's.
Sharky's method never really clicked with me until about a few weeks ago when I was going over my charts and rereading a few threads and then all of a sudden things started to click and a lot started to fall into place and changed my trading from break-even or small loses to being profitable.
Some great threads that I have drawn a lot of ideas and inspiration from if someone new were looking for a place to get started:
so what i want is to give my rules for entries and my charts and indicators for anyone who is interested in the sharky style of scalping. to start i use a 4 range chart to trade with and an 11 range chart to see the long trend and to help me with my entries. …
So my zn classroom was to try to train your minds to see scalp entries, s/r and where price is at all time, this class will move more in the seeing trend, s/r and how to enter real markets for real trades, please this is not gonna be a one on one just some …
To me simple is better..... I don't want to look at too many indicators. Besides, all indicators are doing is telling me is what the price is doing so.... why not learn to read price action? Some of the tools that help me do this are the 50 EMA and …
After putting the ForceIndex onto the forum, it has developed into so many variations and questions, with the introduction of the boomerang, all of which is very similar to the way I trade, I though it best to put a full scale model up for discussion.
…
In a recent survey about webinars, a lot of members expressed interest in learning more about the elusive "price action" that many traders talk about and refer to.
It is my intent with this thread to try and document price action from my point …
The purpose of this thread is to help traders navigate through different forms of trading .. There is trend trading, range trading, counter trend trading and so on .. for a trader having difficulty making daily bread and butter i would suggest …
That's pretty much all I have to say for now I guess, except a quote that I have read and reread to keep me going when I would get discouraged and was just utterly confused, so hopefully some of this rambling will help someone in some way out there:
"A man can get discouraged many times but he is not a failure until he begins to blame somebody else and stops trying"
My sreen name is Muffin, I trade mostly options, mostly commodities, and I usually write them.
I am only able to trade part time so I check my positions in the AM and adjust if needed and go about my day. I'm looking to move to a more active status, but am not able currently.
I'm at a moderate level I believe and always looking to learn more.
If someone emails me and I don't get back to you immediately it's because I'm still working a regular job without internet access.
Hi everyone,
I have been interested in and teaching myself about the stock market since 2003. I think I'm finally ready to get my feet wet and am looking to gain that extra bit of knowledge to get me over the edge and into the pool. I'm looking forward to learning from everyone.
I am a full-time day-trader cum analyst with 4 years experience in CBOT, CME, ICE products. (All agri - corn, wheat, soybean, soymeal, soyoil, Kansas Wheat, etc., and Energy products like WTI, brent, Natural gas, etc)
I really like this forum, its a huge knowledge pool in one place for people who want to predict. I myself was thinking of creating a forum similar to this... Big Mike saved my money and time with this wonderful forum
I've been on a quest for the past 6 months, educating myself online and reading books. I struggled with NinjaTrader learning curve but am now beginning to show progress. I wanted to thank all that post here with suggestions, journals and indicators/strategies for their support and help to all those beginning the trading journey. A big thank you to Big Mike for hosting this forum.
Hi everyone. Name's Erik. I'm a position trader, trend follower; I mostly try to use the futures markets (and occasionally options) to catch moves in instruments that are tied to important macro trends: for example bonds, equity indexes, gold, oil and the dollar. I've traded for a number of years and have primarily used Bill Williams' trend following strategies.
I joined the forum because, after using Amibroker for charting and backtesting for a number of years, I've started to come across some limitations I can't work around and have been looking at Multicharts..and I found some of the most thoughtful analysis on the web here. Although I'm a discretionary trader, I can see that automating some aspects of my money management and exit strategies could be helpful.
There are obviously a lot of smart people on this forum and it's been an honor to lurk around and see what you all think about Multicharts and to take a look at your trading techniques. It does appear that many of you are day trading and attempting to find the "holy grail" of automated systems and that's not something I can contribute much to. However, I'll do what I can. Here's hoping 2011 is a good year for all of us!
