After 6 weeks of glitch-free operation, NT8 is randomly crashing 2 or 3 times a day again this week, despite my clearing my data cache almost daily. Don't know why, but it sure is frustrating. My guess is that a Windows Update has turned on some conflicting process; if i find it, will report back.
Thx jtrade.... it could be the Windows stuff. I dwonloaded NT 8 version 12 and it seems to consume a bit more memory....
I think I will go back to 11. They introduced a new bar type and some new indies, they are interesting,
but I dont see the value yet. Not crashing, but more meory is concerning... A friend has had some crashes,.
I think we will find the issues eventually...
Hi jtrade.... this morning I loaded up NT 8 and it was sitting at over 900Mb with my charts loaded up. I tried something new and it seems to have improved mem use a bit... While NT was loaded, I went into file explorer and deleted all of the Chart Template files. Then I saved new Chart Templates for the charts that were loaded. Then I restarted Ninja. Memory looked about the same. Then I started a new workspace. I opened new charts and specified the chart template in the Upper right of the Data Series window. After getting all of the charts loaded, I saved the new worksapce , switched over to the original worksapce and deleted the original workspace. I restarted NT 8 and memory was back to my nominal. There is no data flowing now and that may be helpful when building and saving templates and workspaces... It seems that with use, these accumulate issues. We will see how it is when there is data flowing. At least it is back to my nominal starting point.
Thanks, bob, I will try that also - I even remember with TradeStation many years ago that deleting and rebuilding workspaces sometimes solved crash issues.
In the meantime, I have upgraded my Black Viper status from Basic to Tweaked (sounds like something out of "Kill Bill" !). Apart from having to re-enable my wifi connection service, my computer seems to be working so far. I did notice that some of my previous tweaks had reset themselves, so I'm guessing this could be a Windows Update thing.
I see you are based in Amsterdam, so in case your PC is localised in a language different from US English, my experience might help you.
Since mid January I had an issue with the Ninja Script Editor: it wouldn't open any indicator, but show an error message instead. It would then crash NT8 after a second attempt.
I realised that the problem was lying with two .NET updates and in particular KB4055532 and the .NET 4.7.1 Language Pack. Microsoft website states that KB4055532 should be installed after any .NET Language Pack, but the Update installer apparently dosn't take this order into consideration. So I just uninstalled .NET completely and reinstalled it in the right order (.NET 4.7.1 then the Language Pack, finally KB4055532). Now my NT8 is back to normal. I replicated the same procedure on another PC with the same problem to the same effect. My OS is Win7 on both.
Bob - I did not go quite as far as you, but it seems that deleting & rebuilding both my primary workspace and primary chart templates have solved my latest issues... "for the time being at least"
All I am in the process of migrating to Ninja Trader 8 but already have issues importing the configuration file, so it gives my no confidence in the software already for live trading. It will be good to hear what others think and their experiences. Thanks
Hi Trad3r... NT 8 has given a a lot of people a lot of problems. It can be tamed, but you have to be careful what indicators you are applying and there is some maintenance that needs to be done. I dont know what you mean by importing the configuration? Starting out, just use the NT supplied indicators. I like to start NT using a batch file that clears all of the cache data, tick, minute and day data. Also, I will rebuild my workspace and chart templates about 0nce a month as described above. Watch your memory consumption during the day. If it starts building, then you may have a bad indicator. It seems that there are quite a few bad ones out there- Paid or Free. Make sure that you have the latest Windows updates installed and then make sure that you have the latest .NET enabled (Control Panel>ProgramsWindows Features). Read the posts above for some solutions. Let us know how your journey goes. I have been live on NT8 for over a year. There have been a few 'ichews' along the way, but it is fine now. I watch my memory and will do a clean start if it starts building past about 1.2G. It normally runs about 800M for my configurations. Good Luck!
