G'day mate!
I'm happy to try my system in your backtesting software if possible. Of course, being Ninja Trader, it's all C# and uses many Ninja specific functions, so I'm guessing it would be a fair bit of work to translate it into another platform. I had a go at moving it to Meta Trader 4 a while back, but gave up when I couldn't make MT draw a line on a chart... (I wanted to try my system on forex, I'd done a couple of manual tests and it looked quite promising. But haven't gotten any further with it.) But my main issue is with back testing per se. I can tweak my system to make an absolute motza on historical data, but then it loses big time when forward tested.
Just tried to start a new thread for backtesting, and received this error message. "The text that you have entered is too long (136625 characters). Please shorten it to 50000 characters long." Since Word thinks there are 394 words in the post, I don't really understand this. I tried to attach to images (using the instructions about attaching images) so could that have caused it?
Cheers,
Ian

Hi everyone! Let me use this time to introduce myself. I'm a discretionary intraday trader. Started trading on and off for over 5 years. Unfortunately, I haven't been consistently profitable as of yet. Blew up several accounts. You know how the story goes! Read every single book and tried many different strategies. I'm really giving myself one more shot at doing this full-time for a living before I throw in the towel and find another job for a source of income.
Anyways, I think I finally found a method that's currently working for me. Hopefully it works out. I plan on starting a journal and eventually contributing as much as I can!
I've been testing & trading CL for a couple months. Before that it was a variety of futures options... which ended badly. Now I'm trying to be smarter about it, and manage risk a little better. Trying to learn more about, well, everything while I'm here.
I have been trading for about 8 yrs. and trade the emini ES on an intraday basis. I use Fibs, simple Elliott Wave, ABC and other geometric price patterns with moving averages on 30 Minute (or 4000 tick) and 5 minute charts. I "time" my entries and exits as much as possible, but rely mainly on price and pattern.
My strengths are low risk entries, direction, initial stops, and targets. The nemesis in my trading plan is WHEN and WHERE to move my trailing stop to stay in lengthy moves. I use the larger time frame to determine range vs. trend conditions and the smaller time frames for entries. I look forward to your feedback and help as well as any guidance that I can offer less experienced traders.
