I might be out of touch with how things are structured and how we are supposed to use them.
But one thing I get frustrated with is posters who quote indicators or templates etc they are using, but then when you look for them in the downloads section they are not there. You then go back to the poster to ask where it is and they will then provide the link to the right thread.
So,
1/ When a member tries to attach a zipped file to a thread is there anyway your software could either; a) warn the poster to post that attachment in the download section as well, b) deny them the ability to put the attachment in that thread (thereby forcing them to upload it to downloads section), or c) automatically copy the attached zip file to the downloads section as well.
2/ When another member in a thread is referring to an indicator/template/strategy etc they are using, could the software automatically do a keyword search on the post they are writing, before it accepts the posting, for the keywords 'indicator', 'strategy', 'workspace', 'template' and suggest to the poster that they should provide the link for that reference/file.
I feel your pain. This is why we need additional moderators, because we need to moderate users posts and clean them up and help show them the best ways to do things that make it easier for everyone else.
This is already done, it's been there for a few months. Any time you upload an attachment to the thread, there is a huge notice that says please don't upload indicators to threads, use the downloads section instead. The exception is for beta indicators, and the exception is for some Elite stuff (but now that Elite has its own download area, that really shouldn't be an exception any longer).
I can't force them to do it. But with more moderators we can catch more of it and politely suggest it. And I can't automatically copy stuff, sorry.
The forum already automatically does a search when a new thread is created. Based on the title of your thread, it will suggest other threads for you to reply to instead of creating a new one. But there is no such feature for each individual post, sorry.
I think what it really comes down to is better moderating. I think that once users are nudged several times by moderators, and by regular users too, they will start to conform and do as you are asking. So, until we get some additional help on the moderating side, I suggest that when you see a post that should have a link to the indicator, you can either a) reply and ask the author to EDIT his post and provide the link (has to be within 1 day of post) or b) use the Report Post feature (icon on right) and ask a moderator to contact the user and modify the post.
I think there is an opportunity for someone to make a site where people can share the stats of their account for ninjatrader, the way several sites currently do for metatrader users.
This might be too much of a diversion from your present purpose, but I just thought I'd throw out the idea.
You're well on your way to becoming THE hub for the growing ninja community, so any of the cool things you see other sites doing with older communities like metatrader and tradestation, you could do with the Ninja community and be the de facto leader.
Also with the new Quick Summary feature any member can add links to a thread at the top of the thread (post #2), so if you and others take it upon yourself to do this it will help everyone
Home | Rent a Signal - by forextsd forum. has signals to sell like zulutrade etc.
One really lousy and deceptive feature some of these have is they allow systems/users to hide their open trades and make accounts with huge drawdowns seem profitable. Supposedly its to keep people from reverse engineering trading systems but I'm not sure I believe this is a real concern.
We recently named a new moderator, ZTrade101. His primary responsibility is to fix the types of issues you just described. He has plenty of work ahead of him and in the coming weeks he'll develop a routine for improving this. He'll also be soliciting the help of every poster so that, in the end, everyone benefits from a more organized layout.
