My apologies for taking such a long time to start posting in this forum. Currently, I am a trader with 11 years experience scalping mainly futures indexes. It has been good till the Algos started moving in a very big way this year. Now scalping has gone to the Algos with the fastest speed. I am in the mist of trying to move away from scalping for a numbers of years now. But I keep going back to it and there has not been good progress in this area. Mentally, I just couldn't do it though I have had the priviledge of being mentored by a swing trader recently.
For some, holding a position is easy and relatively stress free. Just place the stop and let the market decide. It is so simple yet so tough for a natural scalper like me. I made my money by being extremely discipline with losses especially scalping for 1 tick while scratching most of my trades if it does not feel right. To some this is dumb and it is costly. But this has been my style for almost a decade and it has paid off.
In the past 2/3 years, I have been toying with NinjaTrader and other platforms. Frankly, NT somehow just doesn't work for me though I had some strategies coded. As with my trading, I like to scalp. So my strategies are also very short term in nature. But as with all datafeed, sub-second feed is not available. Hence the lag and market order from the strategies just doesn't cut it in reality. I am still trying to fine tune the strategies.
Recently, I stumble upon the RangeBarNoGap in this website. I have been using QuoteTracker as my charting software and their Range Bar is like that - No gaps. However, as I couldn't download it from here as it is restricted to elite members, I got it from another website.
There it seems that he created it but I think it is done my j0hnth0m from this forum. Anyway, it does not work with my strategies. So I had to reload NT7.
Big Mike, I have reading some of your posts for quite awhile and had some of your trading ideas and views from quite some time back. Just want to say hi

Working on 4 markets more or less sucessfull and find this here very interessting.
Keep on trading...
Greeting from Germany
Mike (not the Big one)
I joined today. I'm trading since 1 year and I've to study a lot. This looks like a perfect place where I can find ideas, experiences and useful hints. Hope to get (and give, in future!!) hints and points of view useful for trading.
Sorry in advance for all my questions, and thx for all the replies !!
Great work, big Mike !!
Great work, traders & coders !!
Glad to join this fantastic community. I hope I can learn and contribute with time yet I suffer from chronic lack of the latter. If only I could be up 24/7
In a previous life I was a software guy. Eventually built up and sold a data center. Started trading about 6 years ago. Tried and lost on a number of different strategies but very early on found my niche trading the news on the Forex market. I have made a living doing this for about 5 years. Until a couple months ago, it was my sole source of income.
I developed an Expert Advisor to help myself and some friends become better news traders. It caught fire and recently I sold quite a few copies of it through a friends marketing company. Now I aspire to replicate the EA using C# on the Ninja platform. I know exactly what I want to do, but am unfamiliar with C# and Ninja.
I am in hopes of seeing some techniques people use in their programming to do some of the things I want to do. Unfortunately most of what I do is not in the mainstream of trading. For example, I don't care about anything that has happened in the past. I work with only the current bid and ask prices.
Anyway, I look forward to spending some time and learning some things. And hopefully will have the opportunity to share some things as well.
I'm happy to join your forum and hope to find some good advice !
I trade manually since a long time and trade with EA and MT4 since 3 years but I would now to create automated trading with future and stocks so I just start to learning C# to use Ninja Trader.
PS: English is not my mother language so excuse me in advance for my mistake.
