Hey everyone, my name is Ed Long. I have been a long time chart watcher and now am getting serious about doing more than watching. I was a long time Tradestation user and recently switched to NT for a lot of various reasons. I had written tons of EasyLanguage indicators for anything and everything I wanted to get a visual picture of certain conditions. Problem is, I have no NinjaScript knowledge and really didn't want to go down that road. However I was getting frustrated at not being able to code a simple little indicator so I could see something. This morning I had totally given in and began searching this site for tutorials and instructions to get me started. But I found 23 pages of indicators, some I'm going to try. And I've seen something about "Create your indicator for free." I will have to see what that's all about because I still don't have a couple of pretty simple indiators I would just love to have!
Looking forward to continuing my exploration of this site. Thanks Big Mike!
Ed
Can you help answer these questions from other members on NexusFi?
Like most, well maybe most, I've blown out an account & had to wait for funds to build to try this again.
Haven't traded since 2005 but have been watching from the sidelines. I like & use Ninjatrader platform, &
I mainly concentrate on the mini S&P. I'm not sure how much help I can be to someone, but I do have experience at what not to do. Anyway, thanks Mike for a forum and I'm pleased to be here!!
I have joined this forum for some time now but have yet posted anything. Think it's about time for me to make an introduction about myself and start contributing rather than just reading everyone's post everyday. I have been trading FX for the past 3 years and I trade options as well. Have always had interests in program trading and am now looking into Ninjatrader to achieve that. I find that we have a good community here to get everyone on their feet and hopefully I can help make this forum a better place.
Thanks to Mike and the rest of you for keeping this forum alive and kicking!
First of all, I thank Mike for creating this forum to share his experience and also encouraging and allowing traders to share and learn from each other. I am glad to be part of this very special group of traders. I was fortunate to meet with a veteran trader and he introduce me to financial markets. I learned a lot from him. I use trend lines and support/resistant areas for my trading decisions. I believe in the power of synergy, group work and sharing. I look forward to get to know other traders, learn from their experience and help anyone I can.
My advice ( and almost anyone i have come across who is successful in trading advice) is to stay away from indicators except maybe one or two of your choice. Once you have confidence in identifying support and resistance , get rid of indicators all together.
After reading Big Mike's welcome mail I figured I better jot something down. Although I've been buying & selling stocks for over 30 years and due to my broker have been a net winner by quite a bit. Yet personally have never really engaged myself independently. I've always followed the markets from a technical viewpoint, however it wasn't until March 2009 when I began my real market education. I had already squandered my profits in my account in the 90's on other crazy things outside the market, & was left with about $40,000 at the beginning of 2008. Anyway my account was down to about $12,500 by March 09 and decided this baby has bottomed & out of all the 100s and 100's of great deals I settled on Citigroup which in hindsight obviously wasn't the best of picks, but I'm still holding it. Anyway this one transaction led me to attempt a career in trading beginning with a &10,000 float. However after about a year of studying & paper trading, & then finally taking the plunge with real dough, trading 1 contract of ES, I was down about $400 fairly quickly and hit the pause button realizing I wasn't nearly prepared enough mentally, nor did i have a concrete enough plan and method, although without explicitly realizing it, trading price action is what I have been attempting to do. Now I need to learn how, and I'm hoping to get some insight from this forum. Eventually, I hope to contribute my sage advice and comments to these threads, but for now i am just a student hoping to graduate to becoming a trader.
Firstly may I thank you for creating such a place. It's quite refreshing to see such a thoughtful community.
I am based in the UK, near to Manchester. I have been trading on and off now for about four years and took the well trodden path of blowing a pot or two before realizing there's a lot more to making money from trading than I initially thought.
I trade the Eminis using Ninja trader/IB/Dtn. Over the past few months I have been concentrating on market profile and have Bill Duryea from IOAMT to thank for pointing me in this direction.
Currently, I am just about holding my own, but find that I have not got the confidence to stay in trades and have consequently turned into a habitual scalper. Not that there's anything wrong with that, it's just that I feel with a greater knowledge and understanding, I may be able to interpret the markets more and hopefully gain the necessary mentality to survive long term.
I intend to start using the services of Market Delta and would like to find out any information on overlaying/adding delta divergence, daily VWAP & heat maps to either the Ninja or MD charts.
If anyone can point me in the general direction, it would be appreciated.
Hello Im Brandon,
I am as fresh as they come to day trading. I caught an interest in it after doing some stock trading at work for my 401k. Ive been handling my 401k for the past 4 years and I have done fairly well with it in the annual return percentage department. I have been doing a lot of research on trading stocks but not that much on day trading, which brings me to this forum. I am still getting used to some of the lingo on daytrading and the structure of day trading as far as the platforms, and the differences in forex, futures, etc... Ill be using this forum as a major learning tool on my venture on day trading. I hope day trading turns out to be one of those things where you get out what you put in.
Thanks for this useful tool and any info anyone would like to share directly.. thanks in advance
Story simliar to all of yours. Probably 5+ years in options, futures, forex. Not making money but taking the costly experience route.
Recently have found some great forex automation and market winning strategies.
Look forward to seeing if these pan out in the next 2 years.
If you haven't already, recommend any forex users checkout the asirikuy dot com website. Lots of interesting ideas and perspective...and they are sharing code there as well--all based on mt4 platform--but very solid logic and good user base.
My goal is to learn more about coding indicators/strategy's. Hoping to enhance my trading techniques
via good indicators. Using the NT platform but they don't have to much support on the C# language.
