I'm a retired electrical engineer (2005) who has enjoyed analysis and software engineering throughout my career. That enjoyment led me to start dabbling part time in trading many years ago. Since my retirement, although other responsibilities and life events have not allowed me to pursue it as much as I'd like to, I've increasingly devoted effort into making my trading hobby a full time business.
With regard to trading platforms, I've mostly used TradeStation and Amibroker since my retirement, with some effort spent on standalone C++ code as well. TradeStation was a very enjoyable trading environment for me, but by 2009 my frustration with the limitations of EasyLanguage, the absence of portfolio optimization, the slow speed of the optimization process, and the absence of genetic and walk-forward optimizations, along with a desire to reduce my trading costs led me to drop the platform. TradeStation has since added genetic and walk-forward optimization capability, and it looks to be a much improved product now.
In around 2008, I picked up Amibroker due to its excellent strategy development, backtesting and optimization capabilities. A large part of my trading activity since that time has been spent doing code development and strategy analysis, with the code development being both inside the Amibroker environment using its AFL language, as well as outside the platform, doing DLL plugin development in C++ and C#. When I do live trading of my Interactive Brokers account, it is usually via IB's BookTrader, with Amibroker charts running my indicators and strategies at the same time. This is definitely not the most effective real-time setup! I gradually migrated from stocks to futures during the past few years, and current trade just futures.
Recently, to compliment Amibroker, I've been considering both NinjaTrader and MultiCharts to acquire a better capability for developing exit management strategies, for strategy automation, and for real-time ATM control. Both platforms look excellent. I was attracted to futures.io (formerly BMT) primarily due to the excellent forums and resources covering and comparing both platforms. I've decided to try NinjaTrader for a few months first, since it's free version has full capability except for live trading. This will be a background activity for me for at least a whille, since my day-to-day strategy development and analysis work is still continuing with Amibroker.
Many thanks to Mike for putting together this outstanding forum, where friendly positive-minded posting and professional courtesy are the rule and not the exception. I have a lot of ground to cover in learning NinjaTrader and digesting all the forum posts on the subject before I can intelligently contribute to the discussions. Hopefully I will be able to contribute something useful at some point in time.

What im looking for is a good Fib indicator, one that moves with the market and shows current and overnight moves
Big Mike, thank you for this cyber forum. I live Hungary and the USA. I am interested in a few stocks and stock ETFs. I came here to learn more on charting and share in the process of learning and my trading/investing experiences. I have made money in the past and trade mostly in my retirement accounts. I look forward to gaining more trading knowledge in this very volatile investment environment. Thanks again, Zsike; Ms.20,000

I've been trading on and off for years, but never really getting anywhere. Not going broke either, fortunately.
I have a lot of bad habits, such as letting losers run and cutting profits short. I trade mostly stocks and options, and tried a little futures trading last year. Futures appeal to me. If I try trading them again, it will be NQ because it seems a conservative way to get introduced to them.
I'm working on a trading plan now and will get around to a journal soon.
This seems the only straightforward trading site on the web. I'm glad to be here.
Hey everyone my name is kosta. I'm from nj and work fulltime in my as a Linux admin.
Very recently ( 2 weeks or so) I got an idea in my head about trading. I always had interest in the market and made some basic trades but now I'm interested in seeing if I can use my computer background to further my involvement with the market.
I hope when I'm back from my honeymoon I can do more research as the newbie forum has had some great starting info.
Thanks for a welcoming forum and hope to start learning and posting soon!
Hi all. I'm from Russia and heard about this site only with the positive side. I hope for your help in the development of all aspects of trading, as pleasant and negative.
Hi Mike. and Everyone. This is very nice community with lots of knowledge shared. I'm glad I joined. Been trying to for past 7 years and still " learning" don't want to say "losing" lol. I'm sure money can be made if 1.system is profitable 2. emotion is under control. Number 1 is already found even tho its no holy grail. Number 2, this is never easy for long term so I have to keep working on it. practice make perfect. Right now looking in to VSA and Volume trading, because other indicators is just simply too much lag.thats all for now. again Glad to be here!
This is a great forum as now I'm seeing other folks introduction and not feeling so alone in my quest. I'm considering investing a significant sum of $ in additional education and this forum has been helpful to decide to do so or not.
