piposaurus, I have the exact same problems that you do with Rithmic Data and Multicharts. Very frustrating and actually very novice on the part of each of them. I'm beginning to get fed up with the lack of professionalism with each of the two.
I also had the exact same issue. You can check out these existing threads for related issues and their temporary and permanent solutions. Contact NT they will get you sorted out on this issue asap:
I am working on a backup computer for the past week or so since my newer computer's hard drive crashed. This backup computer is on Windows Vista. I am using Ninja Trader (newest version 14) along with Rithmic/Vision data feed (through Optimus).
I suspect the problem is that Rithmic just expired some certificates. For NinjaTrader, the resolution is to update to the latest version. Here is the advisory we issued a few weeks back on this:
Guys, I am calling the different parties to see if they have upgraded to the latest SSL certificates by Rithmic.
Rithmic did contact the different parties and let them know that this will occur.
NinjaTrader has upgraded first, now I have to see if other parties have done the same as well.
I am sorry for the frustration and will keep you posted.

Just FYI to all interested I had the latest version of NT and when the advisory first came out had no problems but a few days latter NT started having problems. So I did a reinstall and everything working fine now. If on Rithmic I would suggest a reinstall even if you are not currently having problems.
That being said I find rithmic / NT combo to be very stable and reliable aside from an occasional issue. I have found it to have less problems than previous feeds I've used. I do wish they had an alert system to inform traders when there is an issue with feed.
