That is not the objective... The objective is to get as many people as possible OFF of the 8.0.X.X platform and onto 8.1... Otherwise, the total and complete SCARE tactics used to get people to upgrade without a thorough explanation including the link shared here would be in order... How many people got that initial push from the platform when they started Ninjatrader and RUSHED out to upgrade when they don't even connect to Ninjatrader through CQG? Mission Accomplished...
Respectfully, I disagree. I have been on NT since 2010 and have met Ray personally in Las Vegas years ago. I have always respected his candid, honest, and straight forward approach to their business. This transition has not been perhaps as easy as anticipated and some things may have received less attention, although frustrating for some.
After trading the markets for over 45 years and dealing with many platforms and brokerages, I have not seen any better customer service in this business, they are simply the best. NinjaTrader has outlasted quite a few other competitors that have gone by. There is something to be said here.
It is simply unfair to characterize this growing pain as a malicious effort to manipulate their customers into switching to their newer technology.
We can respectfully agree to disagree... I work with a trading group who had the splash notice sent out to them when they started their Ninjatrader application... Some of them "panicked" and upgraded before they REALLY knew what they needed to do... Sure, that is on them in the end but ANYONE concerned about customer service would have done what I did and put together a quick "flow-chart" of the who, what, when, where and why of the upgrade...
"Don't use CQG to connect to your broker? You are fine... roll-on! Any version is fine"
"Have a paid license with NT and use CQG to connect? Here are your TWO choices 8.0.28.0 -or- 8.1.X.X"
"New with no license? Then 8.1.X.X is your single option"...
See how EASY that was? THAT is what customer service looks like and NOT the Splash Screen of death that NT is so famous for over the years...
The upgrade notice was purposefully ambiguous...
Should I even go into how they treated their vendors? Maybe you should roll on over to the support forum and see how it's going with their vendor base... You know, the people who did NOT get
an advanced copy or even a heads up that a new version was being released ON THE WEEKEND so that they could all scramble in and alert their customers to not upgrade until they had time to review
the new version? The new version that broke some of their code... And then the response was TO THEIR CUSTOMERS to "get with the vendor because they will have to fix it"...
Does that sound like "growing pains"?? That sounds like a giant FU to everyone involved and we are gonna do what we want when we want...
Does it sound reasonable to you that there have been 6 hotfixes (some of them SIGNIFICANT) in such a short period of time? They haven't gone a 30-day clip without one to this point... Is that a place where you feel comfortable putting capital on the line trading live?
Anyway, your milage may vary... I am not married to vendors or tools... When another platform comes along that suits my trading needs NT will be a footnote in history...
I was one of the suckers who downloaded immediately because of the "do-or-die" notice. Took me the better part of the afternoon plus help from the company I work with to fix the damn thing and get the old version back.
My own fault because after being with Ninja for so long, I know that crap happens every time they introduce one of these "upgrades".
I agree with everything you said.
Not at all, and I agree with most of your points except that this was potentially a deliberate deceive and proceed transition, although it seems to be a bit of sloppy implementation.
Over 45 years of trading never been married to one vendor or tools either. For the same reasons I have not updated to NT8.1 yet, and currently trade with 4 different brokers since PFGBest Futures left town with my discretionary funds years ago*.
Cheers!
* PFG just got too big for their britches after swallowing a few non-performing other brokerages and IBs and then collapsed.
