Just finished reading the rules again and what the "prize" is for the journaling contest and...
You know Big Mike. Funny thing about this contest is that it seems as scary the thought of winning this journaling contest as not winning. Well just like a 12 step program, I intend to take this all one day at a time. Thanks for such a great site.
Weird... Uploaded Pic missing. Hope I didn't do something wrong.
Will try again as this was the pic I wanted for my entry into journaling contest. And it showed at first now it doesn't.
Hmmm Kind of like my backup trading laptop. By the way if you have only one user account and your account gets corrupted on Windows you are SOL. Moral of the story put a dummy account that you don't use, but can log onto on all your Windows machines.
So frustrating that I can boot in safe mode, but not with normal windows on my other machine.
Thought I'd share some of my tools for journaling.
I have good tools, just have to learn how to use my brain more effectively.
For journaling I use Open Office to manage my spreadsheet.
I also use "FastStone Capture" for Image and video. You can get a 30 day trial version of it at FastStone Image Viewer, Screen Capture, Photo Resizer ... ... A bit of a program junkie here and this is the best one I have found for doing the job fast with very little overhead on your machine. It is a whole $19.95 for a lifetime license and IMHO worth every penny.
If you get fancy and start capturing videos with FastStone Capture you will have to convert them to a format that works on BigMikesTrading if you want them embedded in your journal. Zamzar - video converter, audio converter, image converter, eBook converter is not a bad site for conversions, and there also is a shareware video converter called WiseVideoConverter that I have been using the free version of for a few weeks now. The free version will convert up to 30 minutes of video. You can download it from Cnet.com. I am not sure if it is still supported, but it does work here is the download link... wise video converter downloads - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com.
Okay if anyone is interested I am attaching my templates that I use also. In the upper left you can put your broker data so as to have it handy should you need to call. I zipped both the Excel and OpenOffice files together. There are two template files and two filled in files from today so you can see how I use them if you are interested.
Well have a great day and thanks to everyone for the help.
Just a lot going on. My backup computer will not boot. Saying that my User Profile is corrupt; I didn't even try to bribe the profile or anything. Moral of the story if you have a Windows machine make sure you have at least two User Profiles that have Administrator Privileges.
Well this has been distracting me all week, and I am realizing just how much today.
Rather than trading after my first two trades I decided to spend time watching the market while not trading and working on fixing this )&(*&)(&*()& Windows backup computer of mine.
My Windows 7 Home edition won't even let me make a new User Profile now. Running CCleaner to see if that may catch something that will fix my problem. Funny the problem happens right after windows did an update recently.
Closed the week positive and will be doing a summary of that in another post later this weekend. Continued SIM trading and the week closed out with a profit of $452.20.... I'LL TAKE IT. Just have had a tough time hitting the side of a barn lately. Many distractions, all personal that are in the way of my progress. My biggest stumbling block is the six inches between my ears. Okay on with my journaling.
Really getting so I like this journaling contest. Winning is secondary to learning how. This definitely is causing me to really concentrate on all those things I say that I am going to do when I get the time. Well the time for me is now and I have to get going on all of them. I look at others that do such a good job of commenting on each one of their trades that a thing that I let slip on busy days. I have noticed that it is guaranteed almost 100% that days that I do poorly are days that I have started trading before completing my morning checksheet. (Attached my journal template a few posts back if you want to use it.)
Time to go air my brain a bit... Check in with you all later. Thanks again.
