Hi guys. Just joined and wanted to say hello. Been having some rough times lately, jumping the gun and pulling the trigger too quickly, without setting any stops and got pummeled on some option trades. So, at this time I'm looking to expand my knowledge, as well as survive with my skin intact, and hopefully thrive. I came across this site after looking for some feedback on Al Brooks' materials. There seems to be quite a lot offered here and I found myself registering and now typing this. Looking forward to exploring this site and all of the knowledgeable help that seems to be offered. Thanks!
My name is Steve and I'm a beginner trader. I hope to become a better, more objective trader from participating in this site. I've been discretionary trading in stocks for a year and after little progress and a lot of frustration, I'm determined now to develop a complete trading system before I lose another dollar. I currently work in healthcare but I want to someday trade full-time. My platform is Interactive Brokers and the free trial of NinjaTrader. I stumbled on your forum while I'm trying to learn how to create strategies in NinjaTrader. It looks like you have a wealth of information here and I thank you for allowing myself to participate.
Hello everyone,
my name is Fred I m from France and I have been learning to trade since 2 years now blowing already 4 real account but still keep on trading with the motivation to improve and belief.
Wish everybody here the best.
Regards.
Fred
I have been a business man for 25 years and with new technology and the economy, it is all about to come to an end. Time to find another way to do things.
After simming for months, back testing and assessing to the point of exhaustion, I went live and blew out my set limit within 2 weeks.
I went back to simming.
I produced the exact same good results as prior......so I go live again. Blew out my (second) set limit.
I went back to simming.
I produced the good results again.
I must identify and deal with the problem....and it is not identifying a trade (I can sim), there are new things I must learn about ME.
I am hoping to "mature" a bit in the trading world prior to loading real bullets again. I hope this form will help me and perhaps I can be some help to others.
After many months of using google to find information about NinjaTrader, and having my search results land on this site, I decided to join the forum.
I've been a professional programmer for many years and have become interested in markets and trading since the financial crisis of 2007-2008. I started reading about what had happened to cause the crisis and somehow that translated into following the markets and developing a desire to participate in them with more than just my retirement savings. Actually, considering how poorly those investments have performed in the last twenty years, learning how to trade may actually give me a chance to retire eventually...
I haven't had the time to completely explore this forum yet, but from what I've seen the broad range of topics should provide years of entertaining and informative reading. Honestly though, I tend to spend my time doing targeted searches for specific information, and it's wonderful that so much of the knowledge here can be found so easily. I also have to say that the fact that the site enforces polite discourse and civility in it's members is a breath of fresh air. Nothing stops me from participating in online forums like threads full of insults and personal attacks directed at people for making comments or asking questions.
So Big Mike, thanks for providing this resource. Thanks for keeping the intimidation factor low. Thanks to all those traders that freely share their knowledge and experience. I'll try to participate in the discussions when I feel I have something worthwhile to share.
Hello!
Great forum and resource from what I have seen so far. Thanks!
My trading background is Forex, but have now added Futures. I came across this forum and Big Mike via a site that concentrates solely on Futures.
I currently trade 4 accounts via 3 brokers (1 account is a demo futures account, the rest are live).
NinjaTrader is my primary software for back-testing my mechanical set ups that I have in my trade plan. I use Forex Tester 2 to perform back testing on my set ups that are mechanical, but have added discretion and therefore difficult to automate 100%.
I back test a lot and love it! Having 15 years experience as a software engineer helps.
I enjoy blogging about my trading experiences and have recently started adding video content.
My first contribution to this forum would be that if you are reading this and don't have a trading plan, make it a priority to complete one. There may be templates on this site, but you can definitely use your favorite search engine to find one. Successful Trading demands self discovery. Having a reasonable, to good, entry strategy is a very small part of your total strategy and yet so many newbies place ALL their emphasis on finding the setup with the highest win rate. It's not about winning all the time, but more about risk and money management and other aspects that completing a trading plan will make you aware of.
Looking forward to active discussions and bouncing ideas around!
Congratulations Mike for your Nice forum.
I live in Switzzerland, interested in markets for more than 10 years, And especially futures
(stock indexes, como, IR).
I'm new at Day Trading; but have had an awesome start. I've learned trading techniques from both professional consultants, and Day Traders, and have had winning success. I'm looking forward to going live this week.
