okay recalled one more thing, was particularly curious whether it's been corrected in recent releases...
Back then in MD version 9 MD/Investor RT couldn't let users write strategies based on different time intervals on same instrument.
Can you help answer these questions from other members on NexusFi?
Sure, you can do that with an indicator called Mixed Periodicity Data (MPD). You could do this in 9.0 as well but we've made it very efficient since. MPD allows you to mix both periodicity and/or symbol.
In 9.0, MPD could introduce some inefficiencies but that is no longer the case as the recalculation of MPD is now very quick.
I think Gomi Volume Ladder is great and free. Have used it during 2 months but did not make real progress in trading.
If you want to go in depth of footprints, IMO you will need playback, see periods/markets you have nor recorded, analyse mini profiles on footprints etc. This is available with MD (200$/month). For me it made a huge difference.
Both offer footprints, but are actually very different.
Guys....got interested in Investor RT & just downloaded a few days back Pro ver with EOD w/o MP. Will add MP.
Only use Tradestation till date....but RT looks good.
Questions:-
a)anyone using RT with IB as broker. I see it is mentioned as Data source on RT website.
Thought of checking ....if anyone has any good / bad experiences.
b)any kool charts being shared here @futures.io (formerly BMT)...other than what is available on RT site?
Regarding using IB, it depends on what you're looking to do. If you're looking to do detailed analysis of volume which would require true tick data, IB might not be for you. For instance, if using the Volume Breakdown indicator. It will work, but you won't get quite the same values as someone using a true tick data provider like DTN IQFeed. IB sends what they call "snapshot quotes". More on that here: Investor/RT - Answers* (LinnSoft.com)
I don't believe that has changed since I wrote that Q&A but someone correct me if it has.
But otherwise, it's a very efficient feed with respect to how it delivers data, and we have many very happy customers feeding Investor/RT with IB.
With respect to some charts. Couple of places you can start.
Charthub has endless charts that are searchable. You can go there and type in something like "Renko" in the search box at upper left and get a long list of charts that you can view and import if you wish.
You mentioned you have the EOD version. With that version, you'll only be able to view daily/weekly/monthly charts...so very limited from that standpoint. Might want to step up to the realtime version, and if you feed it with IB, I suggest you get the DTNMA for backfill (see: Linn Software Partners - DTN Market Access )
The feedback I've gotten from Vankar users is that it's been very solid. Vankar sends unthrottled, clean, tick data. I think you'll be happy going in that direction. Again, you'll need to combine that with the DTNMA backfill however.
Recently subscribed the 2-week trial of MarketDelta Charts. My main interest was the footprint chart. To get a deeper appreciation, subscribed to MarketDelta Live Trading room.
In the live trading room, they use only the footprint chart for making trading decisions and the trades are scalps. I guess to justify the high premium of the MarketDelta Charts, they focus only on the footprint chart.
Footprint chart certainly has a value. I thought it could be a very useful tool for detecting the reversals along with support & resistance and volume profile.
In the end, I used it only about half a dozen times and was starting to get used to it when the 2-week period expired. MarketDelta refused to extend the trial, so I move on.....
