I know server has been a little slow lately... especially mid day, like just now. During the worst of times, like 2:00pm Eastern each day, server does some stuff which makes things even worse, and can cause the entire site to be unresponsive for a couple minutes.
I'm working on building two new replacement servers, each is twice as fast as what we have now. I hope to get them up in the next few weeks, and things should be back to normal and we should be able to handle growth for a while.
We are pleased to announce that Mirus Futures is now participating in our special Elite Partner offers, and is offering a $200 commission credit for new accounts.
Note: Big Mike Trading does not receive compensation for these referrals, we simply worked out these special deals to help our Elite Members who have chosen to support the site. Even though we believe these are great products and services, you should always do your own research before doing business with a company.
For those curious, the current futures.io (formerly BMT) server is a x3450 with 8GB and 2x500GB R1. I am replacing that with (2) each of: Xeon E3-1275V2, 32GB, 2x256GB SSD R1. I'll be splitting the load across the servers, so things should be very quick for years to come.
The nexusfi.com (formerly BMT) API is now up and running.
This allows Elite Members to programatically create new posts on the forum without being logged in or using usernames/passwords, so they can do it from their trading platform for example (NinjaTrader C#, etc).
vvhg has made a NinjaTrader automatic poster for screenshots and text:
There are various overloads to these methods, so you don't need to use all arguments.
The two methods are:
and
The first will post a screenshot of the chart it has been called …
This was a very big effort, so I hope to see some programmers taking advantage of this by updating their code to publish trades, screenshots, etc. @vvhg is working on code to automatically include a screenshot within the post. I hope other users will also contribute code to make it easier for everyone else to use this feature.
A couple of cosmetic changes across the site tonight. Unfortunately I made a mistake and one of the post buttons, the "Thanks" button, is still the old style. It will be fixed soon (waiting on graphics guy).
I have several other changes to make, please report any problems.
You can expedite the changes to your browser by issuing a Ctrl-F5 to force a refresh.
While I'm waiting for the new "Thanks" button I wanted to explain a bit more in depth about some of the cosmetic changes, because it's more than that...
In addition to updating the look of some of the buttons on the site, there is a major performance gain here as well. I am now using CSS sprites for all the most popular images on the forum, so it means that when you view a thread what used to take 35 HTTP image requests now will take only 6.
This reduction of 29 calls speeds up the load speed of the page because the browser doesn't have to wait for the server to tell us the status of all those images. This can especially speed things up for users that are far from our Chicago server, where latency is higher.
So the net result is pages should load a bit quicker, but the real speed will come soon when we upgrade our server hardware as mentioned above.
There is a new look inside of Private Messages. Now when you are carrying on a lengthy conversation, each message block should be split out and separated making it easier to follow the conversation.
This means there is a new button on the far right of posts
That will be useful for fast replies where you don't need to add attachments to the post. It will stay on the same page and not load a new reply page. If you decide that you do want to add attachments after you started writing your reply, you can click the 'Advanced Editor' button in the Quick Reply section to switch to the full advanced editor.
I am pleased to announce that Speedy Trading Servers has been added on our Elite Partners page. Elite Members who are interested in @sam028's server hosting can receive one free month of service when signing up for a new three month subscription.
