I'm James from London. Been dabbling in trading for a year or so. Recently started getting my head down and ready to crack on properly. Looking into daytrading index futures, trading intraday levels and hopefully learn some tape reading skills all on ninjatrader.
Can you help answer these questions from other members on NexusFi?
Hi, I’ve been trading/investing for over 8 years now, I work in financial specific IT supporting market data/trading infrastructure for a large investment bank. Over the years I’ve worked on the Goldman, JP Morgan and UBS trading floors, so when I started realizing I didn’t want to be a wage slave forever, work naturally led to an interest in trading.
I paid my dues when I started, holding a balanced portfolio of stocks and funds as standard financial wisdom prescribes, only to get smashed in the credit crunch. I had access to institutional quality research at the time, which had failed to warn of the coming storm (maybe I lacked sufficient understanding of economics to interpret the warnings… ) either way my faith in the effectiveness of established financial theory was shattered.
So I spend the last 5 years soaking up everything I could about trading, reading books on statistics by the pool on holiday, learning Easy Language, dissecting every volume of the STAD trading guides, TS labs, trading books, quant blogs - back testing every system I came across. At first I continued trading in the misguided belief that technical analysis was the answer, before I became clear from my research and shrinking account balance that I should not be trading anything I had not adequately researched.
After a period of abstinence I’ve been trading a portfolio of automated and semi-automated systems for the last couple of years and doing pretty decently, well enough to considering doing this for a living. Trading while in full time employment take a massive amount of pressure off, but I’m reaching a point where I’m missing out on potential profit due to the job, as I have many strategies incubating which I am prohibited from trading by my employers compliance policy (effectively day trading is prohibited, so I am restricted to swing/position trading - actually this has proved to be a blessing as it helped me avoid wasting time searching for the intraday holy grail... in my experience its considerably easier to build automated systems on a daily bars.)
The plan now is to escape the city and trade while finding more compatible employment. To be honest I’ll happily skip the employment part if the trading does well, but we’ll have to see what the futures holds.
Look forward to learning from other traders on the site and hope to contribute, maybe even do a journal if I can escape the rat race!

A person tells an economist, “Look, there is a $20 bill on the ground!” The economist replies, “Impossible! If there was a $20 bill on the ground, somebody would have picked it up.”
Hi everyone. I've not really spoken to people on forums much before, though I do read them on Big Mike's a lot so thought I should join in.
I'm currently trading Ninjatrader sim (CL, YM) mostly and I have a spread betting account where I trade a DJIA derivative and did trade a CL derivative until I realised how much the spreads where costing me.

I'm a US trader. Tiny account, very little experience, big ambitions and fingers crossed. I'm focused on trading options using Thinkorswim on a swing basis.
Good luck to all, and thanks to Big Mike for this forum!
Hello,
My name is Dragan, a novice trader from Canada hoping to learn from successful traders. Currently in education phase, hoping to get to 1 tick/day by Oct.
Hi! I've been day trading eminis on and off in between jobs during the last 5 years with less than acceptable success. It has been a rough ride. I'm seriously considering going back to swing trading gold stocks where i fared better, but for now, i'm still trying to crack this (futures) nut. Looking forward to learn and share. FW.
Like most of you I expect, I have been around the block a couple of times.
I can’t quite remember how much I have spent on software programs and mentorship courses.
I was looking for a place where I could share my feelings and opinions without feeling like an outsider, where I could ask a question from fellow traders without being given a biased opinion.
After looking at quite a few different forums and reading the posts, I felt that “Big Mike's” was what I was looking for.
Looking forward to reading and share with you all!
