I am new to this forum.
My name is Joseph and I am a retired design draftsperson trying to generate income via day trading futures.
I have been sim trading for about a year and I am looking for ways to improve my results.
Thank you for letting me join your forum.
Can you help answer these questions from other members on NexusFi?
I am new to this site which looks interesting. In terms of trading I don't have much to talk but I am willing to learn. Thank you Mike for your nice words.
Hello,
I will be brutally honest here. I drove a gasoline tanker for 12 years and while it payed the bills i just was never happy or content doing it. I have a friend I went to high school with, my best friend actually who became rich after the 2008 meltdown. He was able to pool together some $ and went all in on some preferred bank stocks and made millions over the next few months. I watched him soar into the stratosphere and over the next few years slowly give most of it back. Don't get me wrong he is by all means not destitute at the moment and hopefully comes to his senses and learns some risk management before he's forced to go back to selling computers. During this time while I was working I delved into the psychology aspect of trading bc I truly wanted to get into the business and actually learn from my friends mistakes. I have read 10-15 very good trading books and opened an etrade account. I didn't have much capital or time to trade at the time but i scraped together what i could. I lost a few grand here and there but honestly my heart wasn't truly into it probably bc I didn't have the time. Fast forward to now and here I am. I hurt my back about 2 years ago and received a decent settlement >120K. I am not working at the moment but I am not waisting anymore of my life not living. I have an etrade account open for mainly stocks and I just opened a TD futures account. After a few weeks of SIM trading /CL like a pro I started trading real $. Not surprisingly SIM trading is not quite the same and i think most of us know the reasons why. Currently I am down about a grand in my real $ account. I have decided I am not ready yet and I am taking a step back to learn more. I am truly happy to be here and I know this will be beneficial to me in the long run, I have no doubt. Thanks Mike
My recommendation will be to start a journal, share your trading method etc. You will find like minded traders and possibly a mentor.
Good trading.
My posts are not meant to give financial advice neither do they imply that my method is special. "THIS IS WHAT I COULD BE IF I HAD A TOTALLY CARE FREE STATE OF MIND DURING TRADING" Mark Douglas.
Been actively trading for a few years following the demise of 2008 and still working at it. I seem to take 1 step forward and then 2 steps back. I am optimistic and do plan on getting it right. I appreciate the service provided here!
Just being asked to introduce myself, so here I go...
Have been interested in trading for years. Have developed several trading systems on end-of-day data, but didn't have the discipline to use the systems in real life.
A few months ago I opened a Tradestation account and hope that I will be able to develop one or a few intraday trading systems for autotrading. At the moment I am in the process of developing and testing a few concepts on crude oil futures (CL).
I am only a beginner in the intraday trading / autotrading scene. One of the reasons I ran into bigmiketrading is because I was looking for information shared by experienced traders. And looking for sources in tick data.
I am brand new to this, but I think I took some good advice from someone doing this for years. He suggested this as a very good learning platform and I believe it will be.
Thanks for all the posts I will be reading a lot in the near future.
I have been interested in trading stocks in Australia from 1999 and then in 2007/8 was convinced by a successful trading friend that FOREX would be better.
Since 2012 when I have been really getting into it more I have enjoyed several only short lived successful trading periods from 1-3 months where I make some money and then donate to the market again- annoying but I'll get there. It invariably has to do with overleveraging in the end after having a period of sometimes 10 folding the account- so others, don't do that- it may work for a limited period, but not once your account grows- does something funny to the brain- mine anyway.
And once you are aware what's happening, it's interesting to see how the big banks try to rip the little ones off.
Good luck everyone and hoping for consistent results for the rest of 2014 and a healthy smart start to 2015.
I jumped in the cold water of trading last April and managed to blow up my account so I have taken a step back and am trying to learn to trade the right way. After looking at some of the videos on futures.io (formerly BMT), I am excited to be part of this forum and look forward to learning. I am currently paper trading the DAX futures. I am using TradeStation for charting and analytics and my brokerage and data is through IB.
I wish everyone good luck for the remainder of 2014.
