So? I was having issues and 2 things made a ton of difference. 1st was a cabled connection to my router. That was a noticeable improvement. But, resetting Sim accounts, and resetting the DB made a very significant improvement.
May want to give one or both of those a try.
Can you help answer these questions from other members on NexusFi?
Simplest solution is to move to Sierra Charts with their Teton/Denali combo. I trade from Italy and dealt with lag for years until I made the switch. Now almost instantaneous no matter how many charts I have open on two instances of SC. I trade on an Asus laptop, I7, 16 GB ram.
They do and it is excellent. I think it has every feature that Jigsaw's DOM has for a whole lot less money. You can see pulls and stacks and many other columns you can add to the DOM. NT doesn't even come close! SC is worth the money just for that feature alone, if one used it in their strategy.
I run NS_DataLagTimer to monitor my data connection. If I see the lag out of normal, I shut down and restart or close some of the data-intensive charts.
Regarding the issue that the DOM is leading, is there an interface to get the datastream prior to the chart processing? Does anybody know how the datastream is internally routed to DOM, Strategy and chart (sequence, single vs- multi threads, NT7 vs NT8)?
If I plan on being out by EOD, I want to be flat early enough I'm not getting out at the end where there is light volume where there may be bids/ask that are posted aren't real. I use a different platform, TradeStation and trade off the Dome. I often use OCO orders and if price is running toward my OCO price target limit order, I may move my price target (OCO price target limit) out further, and trail my stop (OCO stop side) up ahead of where I entered so there's no danger of losing on that trade, i.e. lock in some profit in the event it comes back at you. In your case, I would move the limit order (OCO price limit target) to the price MES was trading or a tick or two below. Let it sit there for a moment and if not instantly it would have been hit. I know the feeling wanting to be flat and throwing out a market order. I'll use market order for position or longer term trades (weeks or months) where a few ticks on entry/exit in the big picture don't matter.
3 Go to http://altrixsoft.com/en/chrono/ This will automatically adjust your computer time. The web site doesn?t say that it can be used for Windows 10 but I have it on 2 Windows 10 computers. The contacts page says Russia so this could be a problem but there could be other products like this in the internet.
5 I had 100 Mb internet service but it didn?t seem to reach other rooms so I bought Linksys WRT3200ACM: AC3200 Dual-Band Gigabit Wi-Fi Router a few months ago and it helped.
6 My service was updated to 200 Mb but it still tested at about 120 Mb so I installed a Motorola MB8611 DOCSIS 3.1 Multi-Gig Cable Modem on Saturday and the internet speed went up to 230 Mb.
7 Never, ever, use a wireless keyboard or a wireless mouse or wireless internet when trading. I know that wireless looks cleaner and neater but signals travel thru the air at a much slower rate than thru a wire and speed is everything.
You didn't say what indicators you have running. Your problem is not your machine. Your hardware is more than adequate. Something else is responsible for your crappy performance. You also didn't say what kind of internet connection you have.
For me, the answer to your question is "I don't deal with the lag because I have no lag." I write all my own indicators and am lucky enough to live in a city with gig internet.
I didn't notice what data provider you're using but I have heard that Rithmic and NT8 have been having some lag issues lately. Someone passed these suggestions from their broker so I want to pass them along here. Along with all the other suggestions posted I hope these help. They are focused on a Rithmic connection but should help NT with any data connection
*Clear Cache on Ninja trader
* Reset your Database in Ninjatrader
* Clear internet browser history
* Completely close and restart your computer
* Do not have multiple charts open you do not need
* Do not have more than a couple of days loaded on the charts
* If you need to close an order DO NOT hit ?close?...if you hit close multiple times it will resend orders over and over, just hit ? Flatten?
* Do not have other platforms, utilities, websites, or tools open while trading, only what you need for trading as these other items can take up lots of computer resources which are very valuable during these crazy volatile markets
* Do not use wireless internet, make sure you are hard wired in
IF charts start to get delayed during the trading session, follow these steps over again
Please be advised that this could also be caused by either a slower computer/laptop and/or not clearing cache daily, which we highly recommend.
AGAIN, If you cannot close a position in Ninja, close it in Rithmic. DO NOT repeatedly try to close it in Ninja or it may open more orders. Use ?Flatten? or close it in Rtrader. Also, send us the Rithmic logs under documents Rithmic in a help desk ticket, so we can send them to Rithmic.
CONNECTIONS: This can be caused by computers or by unstable internet, especially if you are overloading your computer. We also got this note from Rithmic (super important if your hear slow computer sounds when trading):
We have received a few reports from Apex users that they are having trouble with maintaining the connection.
As you know, recent global events have precipitated major market movements which have led to unusually high traffic rates from the futures exchanges.
Below are some tips to help your trading screens keep up with these market movements:
Keep the number of instruments to which you subscribe to a minimum.
Keep the number of visible windows to a minimum.
Clear the database in the control center go-to tools database reset the database do this at least weekly
To delete the cache, follow the steps below: This should be done DAILY before trading and in the middle of the day if charts start to freeze. With current volatility, there is a lot of fo data coming in.
(Shut down NinjaTrader. Open the Documents > NinjaTrader 8 > db folder.
Delete the sub-folder named 'cache'.)
Restart the computer, not just Ninja, restart the entire computer, clear cache on all browsers, fresh full restart. Then reopen NT charts
TO RESET DATABASE in NINJATRADER- THIS SHOULD BE DONE A COUPLE TIMES PER WEEK- This can take a while if you have not done it before or recently, could take 20-30 mins to reset, but will help your NT run so much better!
- In Ninja Control Panel, got to TOOLS
- Database Management
- Reset Database- yes have both items check-marked and hit "Reset".this does not clear all your settings or workspace, just stored items that can cause your Ninjatrader to run slower.
