Multi-threaded Charting. When I reported that 6.5 was bottlenecked using only 1 core out of four, they said, yes but NT7 would be multi-threaded. Not true! Not for charting.
Fix DrawOnPricePanel so it can be toggled during OnBarUpdate. They broke this badly. and their solution: write two indicators! As if charting were not already bottlenecked, this deliberately made it worse!
Allow the chart to display X axis on exchange time, not just local. Ditto allow strategies to work and test on exchange time. Or maybe even better, let me set the time zone I want to use, and set DST auto/off for charts, strategies, & back-tests. Heck, Windows knows about time zones, but apparently not NT.
Be able to program Instrument roll-over when (daily) volume of next contract is greater than the current traded contract. CL, anyone?
Better code annotation tools for chart display. Their response: override the plot command and oh BTW we don't support that. (I do like my indicators to annotate the charts)
Tabbed charts within a workspace would be kind of nice, but not until they fix the other issues.
I did pay for NT, but I console myself with the thought that they will never get another dime out of me.
I believe MC does all those things you mentioned. Naturally there are other things it won't do that NT does do. At some point you have to just decide if you should have more than one platform, or switch platforms. Or, if you really like what you have and just want to keep it knowing that nothing is perfect.
I would like to see right clicking and select "next expiry" and "previous expiry on charts etc. instead of going into instrument manager to change expiration dates.
I read on another thread that MC gets "tick" data from IB for backfilling a chart. Of course it is "seconds" data, but for backfilling that is what I use and I have to use a download API utility to get it, then merge it into the database. I spend hours every week filling holes in my database with this method. Why can't NT just have a "seconds" input and get the data from IB??? It's there. And it works just fine.
If you look into the database, NinjaTrader does not store genuine second data, but only stores minute, daily and tick data. All second bars are built from tick data.
So you would need to convert that IB data with a 1 second resolution into ticks - actually one tick per second - to make it work. It would be sort of false tick data.
Also, I just made a test with MultiCharts trying to download 20 days of 1 second data from Interactive Brokers. The good news is that it worked. The bad news is that when I a came back after 37 minutes, MultiCharts had only been able to download 8 days out of 20 and I stopped the experiment. The reason is that Interactive Brokers is throttling the historical data download, so although theoretically possible to download the data, it is no fun doing so. It may be an option, if you only need higher resolution data for one instrument.
Hi, I'm opening unofficial NT8 wish list thread! Since Ray has been so good to us with his presentations etc, I thought we'd compile a list and pass it on to Ray through BM.
