Yes I to have been with them since 2009 and I do like the platform a lot, sure they have some shortcomings but who doesn't I guess? Throughout my time with them and all of my frustrations I've always given them the benefit of the doubt, I might get close to dropping them at times but I always tend to gravitate back.
I've learned to hold back on updates for as long as possible otherwise there's a lot of troubleshooting, I attempted the update to 8.1 but my charts were lagging, e-minis 1+ second & CL 2+ seconds from my system clock so I reported it & switched back not sure if they have applied a fix yet or not
Like you stated in a different post I'll just start trading with them and see how it goes, I guess in the end I was always going to do that anyway.
I hope they can relieve some user tensions over there right now, but I do hope that over time they can overcome some of there shortcomings and become the NT that the majority would like them to be, will never please everyone though
Your right wherever you go you'll have one issue or another, great to hear from multiple users now not having any issues with the broker
I'm not to concerned about the new portal as long as I can login every time, if it's not affecting my physical trading or accounts I don't really mind
You are not alone @jkarten there seem to be literally hundreds possibly thousands of users like yourself from what I hear
I have had many performance issues but for me I don't use any indicators accept EMA's, but I do have addons like
TickRefresh to counter the built in 250ms built in lag
BarTimerCounter to add a sound alert just prior to a tick bar closing
& Clicker for clicking directly on the chart to trade and although very light weight these are enough to freeze my workspace about every fifth time I draw a line or fib retracement where I have to Save then Close and Reopen my workspace, so I do understand your frustrations.
Wow OK @TP10 I was unaware of that with Multicharts over the last year,
I purchased a lifetime license in 2009/10 and used it for a while but preferred NT, I began trading instruments back then that where not available to trade in NT so used the platform for a year or so before switching back and I remember the customer service was impeccable, I was reminded of that this week with the customer service I received, I will always have the platform to use if I want to or need to trade with brokers other than IB or NT and to use through IB for when NT goes down.
My initial contact was to ask if they'd update the sorry to say but ugly old fashion charting interface, I was honest with them as they pressed me multiple times as to why I was asking for them to upgrade the charting, I was not attempting to be but I was borderline rude and they gave me some of the best customer service I have ever received anywhere instead of just telling me to P&%$ off or ignoring me.
Thanks for the input and I'll be sure to keep it in mind
Thanks for the post @hyperscalper a wealth of information I really appreciate it,
It's awesome to hear you say that about NT I have never heard of such a report as yours
I'd like to ask you if you could please point me in the direction of how to push those ping times as hard as you are, I'm an old school price action trader but am super keen to learn about how to speed up data transmission times and order entry speed, is there any publically available info regarding how the layman can go about achieving this?
I appreciate any info at all you could provide me with.
It's interesting you say that, the main reason I'm looking into NT broker is for the intra-day margin rates but not for the reason most are.
My main concern is being taken out of trades prematurely due to a spike in volatility etc
And to make sure that they are acting in a legitimate fashion and to investigate connection problems etc as there are many reports over at NT of major connection interruptions
I've been at this a long time and I know my stats well, I actually want to be trading with the smallest account size possible while being able to trade large size comparable to account capital if that makes sense, I know how much cash I need in my account to account for drawdown?
I want to free up capital for other things instead of it just sitting in an account for margin, with recent margin rates a lot higher than they used to be Intra-day margin sounds like a great idea if my trades are not being cut consistently as I tend to hold and press trades as much as I can given the environment on any given session so am susceptible to have trades cut with increased volatility as I'm regularly positioned already during the London session as I'm situated in the Asian time zone.
Something I'll have to be mindful of, kind of sounds fun in a way, spice things up a bit
If I go bust so be it, I'll add more capital
Cheers
Edit: Don't mean to sound cocky, I just have financial goals I'm attempting to achieve and accessing my current Margin will help me well along the way to achieving them.

I'm pretty new to Ninjatrader, but so far, I've had zero issues with the platform. Now I saw there's an update to NT8. As in any new software, I'd prolly wait for 6 to 10 months to let the bugs work out thru their devs. I had an issue with reinstalling NT8 when my computer crashed, but I just contacted support letting them know I had a new PC name so that my commissions reflect lifetime owner. Oher than that, no issues. Again this is someone who is new to NT8. I also work in IT so I understand things that maybe the avg user doesn't. Their order execution is second to none. Its pretty fast. I've never seen of execution like theirs b4.
I have used it on/off for years starting off with NT7 and I've torn my HAIR out in frustration at times. Mostly because of the lack of certain basic features and VERY SLOW (or none at all) application of user requests and deficiencies.
As an example, their order entry functionality in charts is just terrible. I solved that by buying an add-on.
It should be VERY easy for Ninjatrader to implement this precise functionality, but they won't.
Another example would be that you can't plot daily, weekly or monthly RTH (regular trading hours) charts on futures contracts as it will by default use the extended trading hours. I found a way around this as well using a user made plug-in for the weekly and monthly and for now just using 390 minute bars on the daily.
There have been user requests on the boards to improve this for years and nothing ever happens. In contrast, I'm told that Sierra Charts are very quick to address bugs and user requests.
Anyway, I solved my needs by custom indicators and workaround and overall I'm a very happy user with NT8.
Ninjatrader brokerage:
Been using them for years starting out with Dorman and now with Ninjatrader brokerage.
Overall a very good experience. I must have > 500 live trading sessions under my belt by now and I would say that out of those 500 I may have had connectivity issues and trouble canceling an order (it has happened that I was not able to cancel a resting order) maybe a maximum of 5 session. Maybe less.
Fills and order management generally seems very fast and good.
So, in summary I'm very happy with the brokerage part. The few times I had to reach out to the order desk (didn't call as it wasn't exactly an emergency) I received a quick reply on e-mail.
My one complaint in the past was that they didn't have a performance portal and I would have to physically plot my performance by downloading PDF's, but it seems like they solved that as well with their new portal.
I see there's a lot of new stuff happening now with the brokerage and the acquisition of Tradovate, so I hope that doesn't cause any issues. I'm still on the prior version of NT8 and won't upgrade anytime soon.
I did consider moving to another broker at some point, but it seems like there's no broker that's fault-less and there will always be some minor issues once in a while.
So, I decided to stay with NT8 and overall consider myself a very happy customer at this point.
NOTE: If I were to start out again from scratch it's possible I would recommend someone else to consider another software because of the fact that NT doesn't offer other brokers for futures and I think that's a bit restricting. Of course, you have the choice to chart in NT8 and do your executions on another platform if you want another broker.
