TDE is part of TS8.8, and it is already release... so you should be able to download it.
Enhancements to the TradeStation Development Environment
In TradeStation 8.8, we are providing you with a new advanced EasyLanguage programming editor that we have named the TradeStation Development Environment (TDE).
TradeStation Development Environment (TDE)
The TDE is the new home of EasyLanguage and opens up the door to the development of more versatile and powerful programming and debugging tools. In this first version of the TDE, you will find new features like:
A completely new, stand-alone editor with tabs and slide bars
IntelliSense functionality
AutoComplete functionality
Outlining functionality to allow sections of code to be collapsed or expanded
Programmatic outlining using EasyLanguage keywords #Region and #EndRegion
Outlining toolbar as navigation aid
New improved EasyLanguage dictionary slide-bar with drag-and-drop functionality
Undo and Redo functionality, even after a document has been saved or verified
Line numbering
Can you help answer these questions from other members on NexusFi?
First of all thanks for all the interesting contributions in this thread.
I am a NinjaTrader user today and the longer I use this, the more I am feeling uneasy. It has a modern architecture, I got used to C#, I love the DOM, the ATM strategies and the look and feel of NT, but there are huge shortcomings as well:
- Overly complex software with charting, order execution, automated trading, backtesting, a dozen broker interfaces, etc. and everything works about 98% of the time, which is not what I expect
- Frequent crashes when loading data, internal deadlocks, NT not resetting
- Data gaps occuring without reason
- Broker interfaces only poorly implemented (cannot trade CL via IB/NT6.5 since about 9 months, if you are GMT +1 or further east NT cannot display daily data, etc.)
So I definitely need an alternative, in case NT goes completely wild. I would never ever think about using it for automated trading, LOL. Backtesting is no criterion, you can do that with a different software on a different machine, which is recommended anyhow.
So if I replace NinjaTrader, as a discretionary trader I would focus on order execution and charting. With all my indicators done in C#, an obvious choice would be CQG, as it is also based on C# and it has a DOM. If I just change to a different charting software like Ensign, Sierra, e-Signal or Multicharts I would have to keep the NinjaTrader platform for order execution or eventually switch to X-Trader.
This thread is about MultiCharts, which runs on a Diesel engine (Easy Language) compared to NinjaTraders jet engine, but when it comes to making money, reliability beats creativity.
So I am carefully watching the experiment here. Let me add some statistics from the EliteTrader forum - percentage of positive ratings (total ratings in brackets) since January 2008:
I use NT but I also have a life time license to MC. I use MC and do my programming in EL. I use NT for order entry but all my signals are generated from MC. Once MC comes with the DOM, then I'll drop NT. I am working with another NT programmer; a friend and fellow trader and we are working-up auto execution strategies for both platforms. We will hopefully launch something in MC for our use in the next few months.
My comparison of MC to NT is similiar to yours with a few notes added:
MC support is awesome. When I have an issue with programming that's too complex for me, MC seems always willing to help or at least advise. Example, I was struggling with the use of global variables(if you want to really appreciate EL - this is a must to learn). MC logged on to my computer on 2 separate occassions and had 2 of their engineers spend hours(hours not minutes) trying to sort the issue. They finally figured it out buried deep within ADE code and now, I use Global Variables for collecting and storing data from different chart time frames for use in single signals and indicators - nice.
Hope you enjoy your journey and if you run into something and I can help, let me know.
Are there any Sierra Chart users on this forum? I'd like to know their likes/dislikes on this platform. I've been considering this tool since the price is very reasonable:
I think they might have a bit of animosity towards a certain language...
"Rocksolid software. Does not use Java. Does not use the Windows registry. All program files, data files and configuration files are installed to the folder and subfolders of where you installed Sierra Chart to. Very easy to uninstall or relocate."
I like the use of global variables & programming is a snap.
To be a trading platform, they'll at least need to conquer the DOM issue & chart trading would be great too. Their Automated Order Exection looks real promising.
So, let's workup some excellent signals - put them in Automated Order Execution and then hit the surf or golf or fishing while our platforms spend the day scalping for us ;o)
