Sadly in my case it did not work. As my screenshot shows Ninja removed most objects from my monthly.
I show the log also. The Log says removed because older than 20 days.
So save you work with "Save Workspace" is not doing that every user would expect: SAVE your work.
In any case, why is the user not ask if Ninja wants to delete something ? (even sub daily )
What a joke in this regard is the LOCK feature - it has no impact.
What is a user supposed to think if he see "lock" this chart object ?
There is another (here unrelated )bug in Ninja, that causes "Save Workspace" not to save your charts. You need to close the workspace to save your work. One will realise this "feature" only if your Ninja crashed for some other reason. After the crash you will find that your earlier use of "Save Workspace" was useless - nothing was saved.
I would add that most of the Ninjatrader system indicators are also inefficiently coded and will waste a lot of resources on COBC false. They may not crash Ninjatrader, but they can really slow it down.
True 'Save Workspace" does not seem to write the xml file to disk. If NT terminates abnormally, you lose all your drawings, and workspace configuration. But, I believe that "Save Workspace As" works properly, although I haven't tested it. I generally use "Save workspace As" to save a workspace to a temp name, then save that temp workspace back to the original name.
Puma, if it works for me (including lock) but not for you, then the issue must be something different. Maybe it is just a case of corrupt workspace. delete the said workspace from the <my documents>\NinjaTrader 7\workspace\ folder and try again.
In my opinion, NinjaTrader 7 is just a piece of bullshit that can ruin all your money in a moment, and you even won't know about it. If you prefer discretionary trading anf manually enter the orders in the market, even in such a case this platform is horrible. But if you're writing strategies for automated trading, NT is a monster that hunts for your money.
Be advised and study on others' mistakes: don't ever use this crap!
You simply can't trust it cause every moment NT can hang itself and all your PC resources. I'm sick of NT, and I tried to use it in different ways for two years. After it, I've understood that this platform is nothing more than an attempt of professional trading community to impose upon retail traders this shit to deprive them of their money.
Any slight outage in price data feed is a death of your working strategy in NT, NT freezes, and your PC is likely not to respond. Kinetick data feed is an ad trick, it does not help to sustain the data feed. When NT loses the connection with your primary data feed provider, it also loses the connection with Kinetick. Strange? Eerie? Mystical?
The internet connection is redundant, I use a T1 line and an independent 1 Gb Equinix line, and with this two extremely reliable providers I face the simultaneous lost of connection to both data feed providers! Are you believing in fairy tales?
The consequences of this freezing may be tremendous: I once encountered continual placing the orders in the market in a cycle, whereas it should have placed only the definite number of contracts. Well, imagine you trade with 5 contracts, you go to have a smoke, you return and see that your strategy made a 50 contracts fill (5+5+5+5+... until margin limits), did not place any stop order and hung your PC so that only a hard reboot may help. You reboot your PC and face the deep and terrible drawdown. That's a real face of Ninja Trader!
That is not the worst thing with Ninja. NT 7 with automated strategies goes into a "not responding" state once a week, on the average.
So, my advice to anyone who think about NT: steer clear of it!!! Don't believe the nice ad in their website! NT 7 is a junk that must be got rid of in the traders' society.
I understand that you have lost a lot of money, I guess I know how that feels. You are now furious and try to blame NinjaTrader and take a revenge on the evil software. I will just answer a few points, I am a NinjaTrader user, not otherwise linked to them.
I use NinjaTrader also for automated strategies, and NinjaTrader 7 is not a resource hog, if indicators and strategies are properly coded. I have rarely experienced any crashes and if I am not coding, CPU and RAM utilization is modest. There are no freezes at all, unless I use poorly coded indicators or strategies. Cannot blame NinjaTrader for bad code.
Continuous placing of orders typically occurs, when the strategy has a bug. Especially when trading at a higher frequency, you need to make sure that the feedback on the execution of previous orders has been returned to NinjaTrader, otherwise you may experience double fills.
The only real issue that I can find is the problem of a connection loss. I have actually never experienced this, as I switch off NinjaTrader during the night. In the case of a connection loss, you need to make sure that you have some hard stops in place to protect your money.
I have personally used Kinetick data for a longer time, it has basically never been down. It is the same as DTN/IQ feed and is a very good feed.
NinjaTrader is certainly not perfect and not suited as a tool to execute high frequency trades, but it gives you reasonable value for money, if you know how to use it.
My least favorite kind of post. Driven by emotion and derogatory comments toward a product that I use, have used for a long time, and like very much. It's a public forum and I respect your right to voice opinions, both positive and negative. NinjaTrader isn't perfect. But rather than bashing it, find a better alternative and then come back and tell us what it is. In the meantime, while doing some due diligence, I suspect that you will find - as many others have - that despite its imperfections, NinjaTrader is a great platform. Good luck.
