I live in Chicago after recently relocating from San Diego. I’m originally from St. Louis, MO. I have dabbled in and out of the market since 2005 but never really put a lot of time, money, or effort into learning the market. Based on my new understanding and using proper terminology, I would describe myself as a swing trader. I have been extremely successful by shear luck and have identified several big movers over the years and even jumped on them but took my profits as soon as I felt I needed to take them. I never used a risk management or money management strategy previously setting up stop loss/profit targets. I used my gut and time as my management indicators. Because of this, I have been pretty successful in the market but as I previously stated it was based on luck.
I am glad I found this site as I am really looking into making trading a living. I plan for it to take years and learn everything I can first before leaving my career. As Big Mike described in one post, I am the type of person that likes to do things on my own, however, I am extremely calculated and do a lot of research often trying to apply what I learned from others and course/education/books. I plan on spending the next few weeks reading this site and absorbing everything I can. If anyone has any recommendations on where to start, I would appreciate it. Otherwise, thank you to everyone who has contributed and I look forward to learning and hopefully someday paying it forward.
Hello,
i've been dealing in agri futures for a few years. Longer profit phases alternate with short but strong loss phases. I would like to use the experience of the forum to correct my mistakes and take my trading to a higher level.
I have been learning and trading on various timeframes for about 9 months and I found Corey Rosenbloom's book, "The Complete Trading Course" to be a good way to get to know about trading in general as well as some depth. Corey now does a daily stint on TheoTrade and that might be a good next step for you -- at least something to consider. I have been subscribed to TheoTrade for about 3 months, on a monthly plan, and I renewed for a year.
I've been at this off and on for 10 years kind of half ass and losing more than I have made. After my trading buddy/mentor suddenly passed away from stage 4 brain cancer, I lost interest. In 2020 I'm hoping to make this a more perm fixture.
I originally found this site trying to learn how to code my own scanner and eventually EA. Today my scanning is very manual and I can't help but think someone has to have created something similar that I should be able to modify with ease.
Basically I am looking for the stocks with the highest % when indexed/compared against the index EFT over the last 6 months. Example SWKS is up 49% over QQQ's 13%, they I use my strategy to execute from the narrowed list.

Hello, glad to join the community. I've read this forum a while and must admit that the spirit is more positive than usual, which is why I usually never post anything myself to forums. Here I just might.
I've been trading for 5-8 years, depending on how to count. Of course I started with forex in MT5, bought a couple of courses, went through a vicious cycle to make 100-200 EA's to figure out no pattern/indicator works consistently or even for a while. Then (after maybe 4 years) I found Jigsaw and changed to futures, which was a good choice but I never went live cause my results were not good with that either. I gave up for roughly two years until starting again just recently.
I figured out that my main focus back then was to free myself from the job I had, and the fire quickly vanished when I changed my workplace. I also had some personal issues which are now tackled, and I came back just for the love of the game and I feel I'm doing better than ever, aiming to go live during the spring 2020.
My main priority trading now is momentum scalping the ES, CL and GC. I've done my practice more on GC, but my results are best with ES so there is a hint for me.
I have been a retail trader for around 3 years now with mixed results. I'm a trend trader and like to keep my charts as simple as I can.
I thoroughly enjoy the technical aspects of trading and look forward to learning as I grow.
All the best to everyone for a very profitable 2020 and beyond.
I am a full time student based in Austria, finishing university in a few months.
As everyone, I am looking for any tips or maybe a different/new approach in trading from more veteran traders. Currently, I only trade stocks on a regular basis, quite successful, but I am trying to get more into day trading.
I like technical analysis, with obviously a profound fundamental research.
That's it from my side right now, I hope I can learn a lot here and gain some knowledge.
I'm completely new to stock-investing, trading and this forum have been recommended to me as a great group of people to learn from. I'm over 41 years and have a bit of background in Computer Science so I know a bit of programming, have a computer at home, can read and have access to academical publications. I watched a few YouTube videos and feel curies but confused at the same time as the information presented are mostly for entertainment purposes. Fair enough, but I need some credible source of information and to be honest don't know really where to start.
