I hear that, the process of getting connected and setting up instruments the first time was a nightmare, with no exaggeration intended. The instrument manager is wholy and completely unintuitive and I really don't understand why you can't pull up a list of instruments once you are connected, because trying to figure out some of the symbols was ridiculous. By comparison, Sierra Chart was a relative dream to set up.
I did finally get Beta 4 set up and working, but in 3 days it crashed twice and I think the connection became corrupted after the last time I restarted because all of the charts were blank and it kept getting stuck on "Establishing connection...". I couldn't muster the motivation to go through the setup process again and decided to wait until it was stable before trying again. BTW, I tried it again today and it still won't connect.
Can you help answer these questions from other members on NexusFi?
I didn't have any problems adding symbols and found the Symbol Lookup quite handy - though I must admit I've only added a couple of futures and some forex pairs, so perhaps I've just been lucky.
With what data feed did you experience the crashes? I agree with you that these would make it quite unusable - but if you have some motivation left, you might want to try out the Beta 5, which got released today. According to it's change log, some stability issues were fixed - perhaps yours is there also.
Crashed twice? What was the crash message? I think the last time MultiCharts crashed on me was about 18 months ago, and I've been running it 24/7 ever since. One nice thing about the crash in MultiCharts, is it has a feature to send the crash analysis to MultiCharts developers for review. Did you do this?
I assume you are using TT data since you are with Velocity. I have MC setup and have tested it with TT data, but I never use it - using IQfeed instead, but I've not had any problems with it - and my DOM is powered by TT data and I never had any issues other than the formatting of the quotes (no decimals, a TT "feature").
Dang man, accidentally closed the dumb window and have to write this thing again. Anyway, both times it just stopped responding. First time for a few minutes before I killed it, the second time I decided to let it go, left in the mean time, came back a couple hours later and it was still frozen. I recall having the same problem when I installed the first beta, but it's been a while so I can't fully vouch for that now. Regardless, now it says I'm connected but still can't load a chart. I tried opening a new chart in a new workspace and today I even created a new connection, but it still doesn't work. I dunno.
Beta 5 works out of the box with the newest TWS. Also, if you have any issues setting up - feel free to come to our Live Chat and our staff will help you get started. A word of warning for MC Beta 5 users. If you have FA accounts with IB, the new detailed subaccounts feature in MC (that lists separate account equities for each subaccount) sometimes causes TWS to continuously flip through accounts visually, an account merry-go-round. This is an IB issue, our requests shouldn't make them do that - we are addressing it with them.
Again, any problems - come to our Chat and our people will be glad to help.
Edit1: You can create tabs in TWS for each account if you want to view the information calmly. It's only the Portfolio tab that keeps flipping through accounts continuously.

I posted this in another Multicharts thread here on Big Mike's but think it is appropriate here as well-
Just an FYI - TSS says they are targeting MC 7 for release this month:
"MultiCharts 7 Beta 5 is nearing on the Release Candidate and the final release of MultiCharts 7 (scheduled for July 13th, 2011)."
I've been asking about the Help file which is from the 5.5 version. They said that are trying to get it done concurrent with the release, but hedged their answer. They did say they would be releasing a bunch of "how-to" videos, so that will probably help a bunch with the new DOM trading feature.
They've been pretty good at posting bugs and scheduled fixes. I really doubt if they'll make the 13th as we all know how software schedules go, but they are getting close.
