I might begin to consider a new trading computer. I wonder what is really necessary and what is pure hype. Are any knowledgable people willing to share opinion on what is required in a good trading computer?
Can you help answer these questions from other members on NexusFi?

about threads or sub threads Mike. I was just asking a question in the "got a question section. So now this is in tech support, fine...how do I find it again? DB
Most important thing for me is the ability to have multi-monitors I currently have 5 and I don't need super powerful machine. I have Intel I5 2400 3.1 GHz, 4 Gig of memory, motherboard is an Asus P8P67 Pro R3 (1155) as it has 3 PCIe X16 slots so I can have 3 graphic cards that can carry up to 6 monitors. I like to have a very quiet PC so all my graphic cards are silent ones my Power supply is a Thermaltake 500 watts ultra silent (fan inside of it only turns on if it is too hot) I have a mid-tower Zalman with 3 fan all very silent. All the other stuff has nothing very fancy.
I use Ninjatrader 7 as trading platform my broker is IB and never had any speed problem, I do not test any strategies don't even use the market replay function as I only do live trading so no use for me. Should you want to head in that direction then you would be better with I7 processors and Mobo made for that.
core i7 2600k
asus sabertooth
ddr3 RAM 16G
ati fire pro 2460
1.5 T hard drive or
equivalent SSD
Win7 Pro 64 bit
Can I buy something like that online from Dell or will I have to hire someone to build it for me? Does anyone know if this is a premium but not unnecesssary build? Im thinking based on component prices this should cost around $2,000. Does anyone have any ideas on this? DB
That would be quite a rig. $2000 is probably doable if you take your time and shop smart. You do need a few other components, power supply, CD/DVD drive a case and maybe a fan or two.
If you have your checkbook at the ready and you know what you want, here's a link to the Dell Outlet.
How many monitors are you attaching? This card has some limitations on how many non-DisplayPort native monitors you can connect simultaneously. But if your monitors are all native DP, then it is a good card for the money.
$2,000 is too much for that config. Look here as an example:
