I started clearing Dorman in 1979, and I knew all 3 generations of the Dorman family. Bernie was the patriarch of the family, and arguably one of the nicest individuals on the floor of the CBOT. There weren't many gentlemen in that building, but Bernie was certainly one of them. I was leasing a seat back then and paying $3200 a month for the lease. That's in 1979 dollars and it was a considerable hurdle to jump and provided a great deal of added pressure. When I initially struggled, he would always offer me fatherly advice. He helped me deal with the pressure and was partly responsible for my success.
