i use funded account (leeloo) using rithmic with ninjatrader
i use semi-automation tool from markers plus
i occasionally get slippage during scalping (4 ticks off) on NQ
i was told getting better datafeed like iqfeed would help because it is unfiltered data
i was also told iqfeed would not help because server is far away, it's from nebraska
I heard getting a faster server like speedytradingservers would help.
You guys got any comment/suggestions? Thanks

If you are interested in speed and better fills then here are the biggest items that could help you.

1. Get in line early for all your orders (entries + exits). Instead of waiting for a signal to come and then placing your order, you should have orders in the queue, and then if the signal doesn't come cancel them. This might be too advanced for you to code / manage, but this is the single best tactic to reduce slippage.

2. If you are going to pursue option 1, you should definitely invest in a co-located server. For 50 to 100 bucks a month you can get pretty close to just about any exchange with a solid internet connection.

3. Optimize your code: NT isn't fast by any means, but there are things you can do to make it run worse or better. Put your execution related lines of code near the top. Run your primary feed from the OnBarUpdate sub (This one runs in front of the other feeds by a few hundred MS often). And most importantly set the update time to 1 tick. That's right, one tick. This will give you the best change to act on your actual alpha in as close to real time as possible. You are definitely already running a few hundred MS behind even the slowest HF algos, so you need to capture your alpha as quickly as possible.

If these aren't good solutions for you, then you should consider increasing your Profit target and stop loss so that slippage and spread cost is a lower percentage of your total trade.

In the analytical world there is no such thing as art, there is only the science you know and the science you don't know. Characterizing the science you don't know as "art" is a fools game.

How much slippage is common with the nq near the open. A couple ticks?
