At this point, I don’t have much to offer to the group since I’m very new to trading. As I continue to progress, I will share what I have learn along the way.
My name is Barry- and I am new to futures trading. I have successfully started several companies in the pharmaceutical space, but have always been fascinated with markets. (One of my companies is a wholesale pharmaceutical company- with generic meds you try to buy low and sell high).
Before I started my first company I went to Daytech to become a SOES Bandit.. that's how far back I go wanting to trade. But alas... I plowed my capitol into my own business and oh... what an ill-liquid business it is. And keeping my free cash with a "money manager" for 10 years for a 1% annual return after fee's did nothing to improve my position. I took my liquid assets back last year-- and went back to my own position trading. (up 20% on the year so doing okay..)
My companies are on autopilot and since -I do not have to work more than 4 hours per day I have spend the last 9 months studying everything like a "Stage 1" trader (cause i am lol) I am finally into that stage where I am wanting to simplify and become good at one market that I can be active in.
My main focus has been trading psychology. As a former Big Ten college wrestler, part time coach, CEO and most importantly a dad... I find that trading psychology is the most broadly applicable concept I have come across. I think trading is a metaphor for life.. and if one can succeed in trading (meaning being consistent over the long term) then one has a what it takes to master life.
For a myriad of reasons (not the least of which are taxes) the S&P E-mini is going to be my new best friend. So I am here to up my game while I put together my plan, decide on platforms and brokers.
And from I can tell-- my beloved Interactive Brokers is NOT the platform of choice for Futures!
I am looking to add specific indicators (Barry Taylor's) and Market/Volume Profile and I have not found anyone on the internet, really -- who says "IB is my go to for Futures and here is a well considered and effective configuration"
I need to solve that puzzle so I can spend the next 6 months practicing.
So I hope to give more than I get in this community - but forgive the newb in me until I get my feet under me.
New in this trading industry just started trading on a live account after 6 months of demo practice but nothing is going my way, everything just feels and seems different.
Hoping to better my skills and exchange all i have with you all.
Been there, done that Mike, actually still trying to control emotions and get on a consistent profitable path. Ironically, I have a good strategy, its just the mind set. Like you mentioned, being accountable to others really helps.
Thanks for starting this.
Richard
Actually even though my profile says apprentice, I have been trading for quite a few years. Have come to the conclusion that the Holy Grail is DISCIPLINE. Nothing else will beat it.
How many times I have been profitable for a while only to let it go to my head and blow it all out.
DISCIPLINE will be my 1st choice, 2nd: sticking to your strategy if it works. Stay with it in and out.
Thanks
richard
Hi, I am here to learn and share resources about market profile trading. I would be very thankful to all who would work with me and would share with me the facts and figures with me, to grow my knowledge on MArket profile using Multi charts platform ..
More importantly i would like to request some one who can educate me for telling me which is the best platform to use marketprofile .
Hi all,
I'm from Germany and I trade the FGBL, CL and ES Futures using NinjaTrader as trading platform.
Just started reading this huge place of good information here.
I have been working as a developer for a prop trading team of a big investment bank for the past 9 yrs. this is still my first job out of my school. Initially i joined on an all developers team working on developing trading systems. couple of years down the line i started working on developing strategies for traders (offshore development) which would trade using the platform i used to work on.
couple of years further, I joined as RAD (rapid application developer) on trading desk in tokyo. my primary role was development of trading strategies and daily support. at this stage we were team of 5, 4 traders and me. 1 year later i moved to Hong Kong and still based in hong Kong. after moving to hong kong, we started development of HFT trading business. Which grew into a big one in 3 to 4 yrs. I was still mainly working on developing strategies here: C# and C++. I was still not much involved in quantitative research. I was trying to push myself in research role but in vain. Eventually i asked for a change and later I joined a stat arb team last year. Same developer role but more inclined towards research.
I have vast experience in building systems, strategies, risk etc. but a brush up of hands on research.
I don't want to do day trading but build a systematic trading tool at home. I have good knowledge or financial markets.
We mainly trade in equities market and trade futures mainly for hedging. Our primary business is index arbitrage and we always trade so that we are net neutral.
I joined this site just this week and i started getting more involved in doing research and dev at home very recently.
I am based in Hong Kong since past 7 years and happy to connect with people here. thank you.
