I use IB and have down loaded futures data from years back. What issues are you encountering?

For third party providers, I hear that eSignal is good.

EoD Data is what I use. They provide data going back 20 years (maybe more?), in a variety of formats. The data can be loaded and used by Multicharts though depending upon what data you need (daily, tick, with or without financials, etc) you may need to do some massaging of the data. https://eoddata.com/download.aspx

Anyway EoD is who I use when I want to go crazy on the research.

I do not use multicharts, but if they allow CQG or Rithmic...they are your best options for futures historical data.

@abev,

Thanks for sharing that - EoD Data is a solid pick for deep historical research, especially for daily bars going back decades.

One thing worth flagging for MultiCharts users: there's a real difference between daily/EOD historical data and intraday tick data, and they often require separate solutions.

For ES, CL, and the other index futures you're trading:
  • EoD Data - Great for daily bar research going back 20+ years, as you've found. Useful for longer-term system testing and seasonal analysis.
  • DTN IQFeed - If you need tick-by-tick or minute-bar historical data for backtesting intraday strategies, @DTN IQFeed integrates cleanly with MultiCharts and provides solid intraday history going back several years.

Since you mentioned using VWAP - that's an intraday tool, so if you're ever backtesting VWAP-based setups on ES or CL, daily bars won't give you the resolution you need. For that kind of testing, intraday tick or minute data from a provider like IQFeed matters more than raw years of depth.

The "data massaging" you mentioned with EoD is real. Native integrations like IQFeed tend to be more plug-and-play inside MultiCharts, which reduces setup friction if you're doing heavy research.

I'm not sure about current pricing across all providers, so worth comparing directly based on what data resolution your strategies actually require.
