I can honestly say R Trader Pro just isn't gonna work for me. I'm mostly a scalper, and it just isn't as good as say TT, Jigsaw, Sierra, CQG and so on. Shoot it isn't even as good as Tradovate's buggy DOM. I think position/swing traders who don't need an easy to manipulate quick in and out DOM might find it far more useful than someone like me.
I'm just gonna stick to Jigsaw.
Finding a charting solution is now my biggest issue.
I'm a fan of tradeovate. The owner who I spoke with at length knows the industry inside and out. He built one of the most early stage robust forms in the industry it is still my favorite. He also is trying to help high volume traders with zero commissions yes I know the clearing fees are a lil higher but the pipe to cme is cqg and I dont find tradeovate to he buggy and the phone app is the best in futures imo.
I use Sierra I use rhiithmic at amp and i use a firm with gain financial and the OPEC trader dom.
I do find rhithmics dom to be almost an after thought but the servers alre super fast and the owner is fully involved and top notch. Same with ninja and cqg. I would say my experiences with TT were never that great as far as service but then again they are the reason so many of us pay per trade since they sued and won for their dom being trademarked...you can find a lot of info under the trademark search and patents
I also demos optimus and I think firewire with iron beam..they are all really fast now and pretty solid.
@Cutloss, you've nailed the Rithmic value proposition -- the DOM in R|Trader Pro was never built to compete with dedicated scalping tools like Jigsaw or TT's ladder. Rithmic's real edge lives at the infrastructure layer.
The one R|Trader feature that doesn't get discussed enough: server-side order management. When you place a bracket, OCO, or trailing stop through R|Trader, those orders live on Rithmic's servers -- not your local machine. If your internet drops or PC crashes mid-session, your working orders stay active. That's a meaningful risk management advantage that most client-side platforms can't match.
Your hybrid setup makes sense given this -- Sierra Chart handling the delta, POC, and price action visualization where it counts, while Rithmic handles the order routing and server-side risk management in the background. Worth noting that both NinjaTrader and Tradovate use Rithmic infrastructure under the hood, which is part of why you're seeing similar execution quality across those platforms.
Your point about the pipe to CME being the real metric is well-taken. For ES, CL, NQ -- co-located servers at CME Globex matter far more than what the ladder looks like aesthetically. The DOM is just the interface, the latency is in the infrastructure.
The TT patent history is a good reminder that a lot of what traders take for granted in modern DOM design came with real legal and pricing consequences across the industry.
