General Principles
Order flow (DOM, footprint) doesnt show intentions, only current activity.
Absorption, spoofing, pulling → can fail anytime → treat only as contextual probability, never absolute.
Scalping 25 ticks = poor R/R (commissions eat edge).
Best use: broad structure from Market Profile, trigger from order flow.
⸻
How to Use Order Flow
Microscope, → refine entries under context
Use only for entry/trigger, not for exit.
Exit/trail based on swing/structural changes
Broad → Narrow Framework
1. Profile Context
Identify balance, value area, IB, prior HVNs/LVNs, open type.
Define bias (initiative vs responsive).
Define potential destination for trade.
2. Trigger (Order Flow)
Confirm acceptance or rejection at reference levels.
Read imbalance behavior (continuation vs trap).
Use POC shift for indices, impulse/absorption for commodities.
3. Execution
Enter on OF confirmation.
Place SL at idea failure, not wiggles.
Trail only on bigger swings.
⸻
Indices (MES, MNQ)
Tend to build value when trending.
Cleanest signals:
POC migration = trend confirmation.
Breakouts with acceptance (volume building, delta support).
Fades at VAH/VAL only if OF shows absorption.
Good for pullback entries → wait for rotation + OF confirmation.
⸻
Commodities (MGC, MCL)
Rarely build volume when trending → instead, move in impulses.
Pullbacks are rare.
Trigger logic:
Impulse continuation → join if buyers/sellers not absorbed.
Failed impulse (trap) → fade if absorption flips the move.
Scale entries:
Small initial entry on impulse.
Stop behind micro-swing.
Add only if pullback forms (rare).
Destinations still come from Profile (HVNs, LVNs, prior value edges).
When I speak initiative or responsive biases I mean:
Initiative
Traders are taking the market into new territory.
Theyre not waiting for value theyre pushing away from it.
Signs:
Opening outside prior value (gap open, open drive).
Price acceptance outside of prior VAH/VAL.
POC migration in the new direction.
Bias: Go with initiative → look for breakouts, trend days, continuation plays.
Responsive
Traders are fading extremes and bringing price back toward value.
They respond to prices being too high/too low relative to yesterdays value.
Signs:
Open inside value → expect rotations.
Rejections at VAH/VAL.
Absorption at range edges, failed breakouts.
Bias: Fade extremes → mean-reversion trades back to POC or value area.
Practical Example
Yesterdays Value: 19501960, POC = 1955.
Todays Open = 1970 (above value).
If buyers accept above 1960 (value area high), then activity is initiative → bias = long, look for trend continuation.
If buyers cant hold 1970 and price falls back into value (under 1960), then activity is responsive → bias = short, fade back toward POC 1955.
Why Tick Charts Matter
Each bar = nearly same volume of contracts, so differences in bar size/time reflect changes in sentiment.
Good for reading effort vs result in price movement.
Helps to see when aggression continues, stalls, or flips.
⸻
Tick Chart Patterns & Context
1. Bar Size Compression
Sequence: Big → medium → small → stall.
Meaning: Same contracts traded, but less price distance covered.
Context: Momentum slowing, opposition building.
2. Expansion After Compression
Sequence: Small → small → sudden big bar with imbalance.
Meaning: New initiative aggression enters.
Context: Trend continuation or fresh reversal impulse.
3. Weak Bar (Wick/Opposite Tail)
A bar with a long wick against the move (e.g., up bar with top wick).
Meaning: Effort but no result → absorption / failed aggression.
Context: Often first sign of sentiment change.
⸻
Integration With Order Flow
Combine bar size sequence with footprint/delta:
Compression + delta flip = exhaustion → potential reversal.
Expansion + strong delta = continuation.
Useful at key reference levels (VAH, VAL, IB, HVNs, LVNs).
⸻
Practical Usage
Not a trigger by itself → use as context filter.
Tells me whether aggression is gaining or losing power.
- **Opening Type**: Open Drive OR Open Rejection Reverse
- **Opening Location**: Inside Value
- **Day Type (Projection)**: Currently looks like trend, but could be simple previous day range extension.
- **Shape Type (TPO)**: Double distribution, but could become D if trend not confirmed.
- **Overnight Range**: Wide
- **Bias**: ⚪ Neutral
- **Narrative**: Price climb high yesterday, one pullback already formed, but is it enough for trend continuation?

# 04.09.2025 -MES
## 📊 Context
- **Opening Type**: Open Auction Out Range
- **Opening Location**: Above VAH
- **Day Type (Projection)**: Normal
- **Shape Type (TPO)**: D
- **Overnight Range**: Narrow
- **Bias**: 🟢 Bullish
- **Narrative**: Price was down for several session, the question if the rally is over it it's a pullback, currently price open higher and sit there, but will it be rejected? I'll try to play both sides.

# 04.09.2025 - MCL
## 📊 Context
- **Opening Type**: Open Drive
- **Opening Location**: Inside Value, but on edge of VAL
- **Day Type (Projection)**: Trend
- **Shape Type (TPO)**: None yet
- **Overnight Range**: Narrow
- **Bias**: 🔴 Bearish
- **Narrative**: Price to accept lower value
Mixing Scalps and Profile Trades = Mistake
My error: entering with scalper stops, but targeting profile destinations.
This mismatch worked in early August (rotational market), but failed in late August (trending market).
Reason: scalping needs tight exits, profile trading needs wide stops and patience.
Separation of Playbooks
Scalp trades
Tight stop, small targets.
Exit fast.
Best in balance/rotation.
Profile trades
Wide stop = idea invalidation.
Hold for big target.
Best in trend days.
Rule for Myself
Always define before entry: Is this a scalp or a profile trade?
Never mix the two.
Use day type (trend vs balance) to choose which playbook to apply.
- **Location in Profile**: Single Prints / LVN / HVN / Edge / Breakout / Inside Balance

- **Screenshot at 3m**:
I hold trade for too long and footprint is not rendered for entry. Next time need to screenshot entry and all exits.
## ⚙️ Execution
- **Trigger Type**: Footprint Imbalance
- **Entry Reason**: Price was trending all day, enter on pullback.
- **Exit Reason**: Half close on 2R, second half BE on tight SL.
## 📈 Outcome
- **Win**
- **Would I take this trade again?** Yes
- **Emotion check**: Calm, Confident
Product-Specific Behavior (observed)
MGC (Gold) and MCL (Crude Oil)
Often trend during the EU session.
They dont rotate much, more prone to directional breaks.
Best handled with profile/context approach:
Identify value shift / imbalance.
Enter with wider stop (idea invalidation, not scalper stop).
Hold toward profile destination.
MES (S&P E-mini Micro)
Often rotates in range during EU session.
Good for scalping approach:
Tight stop.
Small, quick targets.
Fade rotations and micro-imbalances.
- **Opening Type**: Open Auction In Range
- **Opening Location**: Inside Value
- **Day Type (Projection)**: Normal
- **Shape Type (TPO)**: P
- **Overnight Range**: Wide
- **Bias**: ⚪ Neutral
- **Narrative**: Yesterday up move continued, and POC shifter higher, but on ASIA, big amount of wick formed and price couldn't reach new high. Don't have any particular expectations. If price break down yesterday single, I expect to go to yesterday POC, other way extension higher of current range.
