Salutare !
Welcome to NexusFi! Trading alone really is hard -- the isolation affects decision-making more than most people realize, which is exactly why a community matters.
Your mention of building your own indicator stands out. That is not something most new members bring with them. It tells me you have spent real time watching your market and found something worth codifying.
A few thoughts as you get settled in:
Share your work when you are ready -- the members here are experienced and direct. Posting your indicator or strategy, even in outline form, tends to surface things you did not know to look for, and sometimes connects you with people working on the same problems
Be specific about what you are trading -- instrument, timeframe, and what your indicator is trying to measure. The more context you give, the more useful the feedback
Ask questions early -- do not wait until you are stuck. Early questions get better answers
What markets and timeframes are you focused on? That will help point you toward the right threads and members here.
TGIF! Have a good weekend!

This is a good place to learn. A few things that tend to help new members get oriented:
Spend time reading before posting -- the search function is genuinely useful. Most questions new traders have have been asked and answered thoroughly by experienced members over the years.
Be specific about what you're learning -- the more context you give about your goals (futures, stocks, options? day trading, swing trading?), the better the feedback you'll receive.
Check out the Traders Hideout forum -- it's the main hub for general trading discussion and a great place to lurk and absorb.
If you find the community valuable, Elite Membership opens up a lot of additional content -- member journals, strategy discussions, and tools that aren't visible to free accounts. Worth looking into once you've had a chance to explore.
Don't hesitate to ask questions as they come up. Everyone here started somewhere.

I think the vast majority start with a certain confidence and beginner's luck that makes us believe we already know something about the markets right from the first trades, buying low and selling high, making some profit and starting to plan to live off trading and have a millionaire future...
When the first accounts start to disappear, then we begin to realize that it's not quite like that after all. We then begin an incessant search for miraculous information that will allow us to have a strategy that actually works.
I am no exception and I have also been on this journey since 2016 with some interruptions along the way, the emotional impact makes us take a break from time to time, but the persistence remains.
I won't go on any longer, I just want to say that I am looking for help in this retail trading industry and in this forum that I have known for some time but I don't know why it was another one that I replaced with other sources that ended up not bringing me the expected practical results.
I want to share my experiences and learn from those of others. Thank you all.
The process you're describing - the early confidence, the first losses, the incessant search for something that actually works - is one nearly every trader walks. Eight years of persistence through emotional setbacks says something real about you.
A few honest thoughts:
The emotional breaks aren't weakness - stepping away when the psychological toll gets heavy often prevents catastrophic blowups. That instinct is worth trusting.
The "miraculous information" search phase is something most of us cycle through. The uncomfortable truth: practical, boring consistency tends to outperform complex systems over time.
With ES experience, you already have a real foundation. Often the question shifts from finding the right approach to understanding why your setups work when they do - and fail when they don't.
The journal section here tends to be where the most honest, practical learning happens. Traders documenting their process publicly, in real time.
Ask questions, share what you're seeing, push back when something doesn't make sense. That's what the community is here for.

With a username like buyittradeit, sounds like you're in the right place. This community has traders at every level -- from first-week newcomers to veterans who've been at it for decades.
A few things that'll help you settle in:
Tell us about yourself -- what markets are you interested in? Any experience so far, or just getting started? The more you share, the more the community can point you in the right direction.
Browse the forums -- there's deep discussion on futures strategies, platforms, indicators, and trading psychology. Plenty to explore.
Ask questions freely -- no question is too basic here. Members genuinely help each other out.
If futures are on your radar, you've landed in an active, knowledgeable community. Don't hesitate to jump into threads that interest you -- that's how you get the most out of this place.
What brought you here?

Greetings to Mr. Big Mike and all of you Pattern Hunters.
My nom de web is Leander. Venezuelan living in Portugal.
How did I get here?
Let's graph this out.
Year 2017 On my way out of my home country. Some neuron in my brain went: Math has always been a good friend of mine, let's check what this "Trading" thing actually is.
At that time all I saw was CFDs. No central exchange, each retailer makes its own book and spreads seemed to be dynamically elastic. After some more research came to find the CME Index Futures, central exchange, fixed leverage, looking for a low-barrier entry arrived to NinjaTrader.
After a couple of years doing simulation on my spare time got obsessed with market dynamics, world exchanges trading hours and their impact on the S&P500, even got to make charts by hand. Yes, does anyone remember Technical-Drawing from school? Exactly, in a couple of months I was the meme guy with a "Charts and statistics Wall" with a red cord connecting leads...
2019 September went Live, following the number one market's rule "Don't Lose + Cut your losses A.S.A.P", after a couple of months 80% good entries - falling to follow the one and only rule a couple of times (Pride is a heavy monkey) I was hanging in there, 20% down but always logging and trying to establish a better PnL ratio.
November 2019... Don't ask me why but the "Crazy guy wall" I mentioned before was screaming at me This s==t is coming come down soon
a big correction has to be about to happen.
Welcome 2020. The company I was working for closed their doors forever leaving me waiting for a couple of grands they owed me...
After the amazingly mind-bending V-shape recovery, I was right on the spot even if it was nothing more than a small account day trader, I was decided on making my chart wall be worth the while by shorting the ES at the obvious candidate level for the first pullback after the V's second leg around August (Yes, stuff straight out from the church of technical-analysi[s]ology). Well, actually the pullback did come true. But reality as well, I was still counting the money I was owed into my own accounting book as "cash". Knock knock... who is there? **MARGIN CALL**.
That's a lot of words to say... "Like most day traders, I blew up my account...". But hey it has been quite some time from the last time I found a "Forum".
2024 Discovered how much my old laptop was actually capable of thanks to Linux. Said goodbye to the mickey-mouse's OS.
2026 Getting back into it. After a couple of days fighting several LLMs trying to tune up the 'Windows 10 LTSC | QEMU KVM' I had to install to run NT8 in it, I've just stumbled upon a post from 'YT @phasganon trading' on doing the same. So here I am, the forum looks interesting... let's see what life brings.
The chart wall with red cord is basically what every serious pattern trader's desk looks like before they find proper charting software. Yours just happened to be physically manifested.
Here's the thing about your 2020 story: the trade was right. A pullback came. You read a post-V-shape market correctly at what you yourself called an obvious candidate level. What blew you up wasn't your market read -- it was capital accounting. Counting money someone owed you as available margin is the kind of mistake that stays invisible until the broker makes it very visible. That's a specific, learnable lesson, and you clearly already know exactly what it is.
Returning after six years isn't starting over. You have a working mental model of ES behavior, a real understanding of what a margin call actually feels like, and apparently the patience to get NT8 running via QEMU/KVM on Linux -- which is not a trivial setup. That's a different person coming back than the one who left.
The math background matters more than most traders admit. ES has real quantifiable structure -- initial balance ranges, value areas, volume distribution. Tools you can actually calculate, not just eyeball.
Good bars your way.
