Joining here at a pivotal time. Have recently blown up my account after full time trading futures for past 1.5 years.
My plan is to regroup, stay tuned into markets and start EOD trend trading futures indices and commodities while full time employed.
My biggest failure has been underestimating the amount of screen time it would take to master this game. Looking back, I would have been wise to trade smaller and work on money management.
I started with a strategy that saw commented on a forum. Then I developed it on NT. I had it running for several months in DJ in a demo account and did nothing but lower the amount in the account.
I have created many strategies, but I've backtested and I've never reached adequate ratios. Obviously, the best ratios with huge stoplosses, but then went the profits.
A month ago I created a real Forex account with little money. I trade almost every day, solely with deviations, trend lines and pivots, and at least keep me around as the first day. This week, for example, after a dozen trades, I've lost 3 cents, including commissions.
I think the indicators, apart from lag, are aids for the uninitiated to see what really happens, never as signals. In the future I would like to see all without then.
I feel that the movements are very simple, but I also see that it is very difficult to produce pips.
Been lurking here since Big Mike started the forum and I was reading the big guys blog regularly before that. Gotta say, Fantastic Work on the forum!!!
Mike, you might remember we chatted about running NT on Ubuntu on the Ninja forums and I never really got it working under wine. I did have it running ok on a triple monitor desktop running Ubuntu 8.04 in a VM, but running a VM on top of Linux just added another layer of complexity and wasn't worth the hassle imo. I have since gone back to Vista and testing 7.
When Ninja 7 comes out I intend to change to windows 7 at the same point so I only have one big change.
Also gotta say thanks to those that have shared Ninja code here and on the NT forums. I'm not new to programming but I haven't done a lot of the C based stuff so I'm still finding my feet. Once I get some stuff worth sharing I'll post it up.
I'm in Australia so I trade the SPI (S&P200) during our market hours and FTSE in the evening. I also dabble in ES, gold and oil if the mood suits. I'm primarily a momentum scalper but I try and hold the occasional trade longer if it seems like I have nailed a good mid term entry.
I use MFG Australia using a pats feed which is currently broken and the Ninja guys are being super helpful fixing. Thank god because my past experiences with Pats aren't really printable on a public forum. If I don't get results soon I will be switching to an IB account as it's one of the few OS brokers that have the SPI on their list (that I have found anyway) Open to suggestions if anyone knows of other.
HI iam from canada i have been trading the e-mini futures mainly the ES for the last 5 years.reasonable success always looking to improve.thank you for a great site

Hi,
I am from Germany and trade automated on MT4. Since I want to get serious with trading I am trying to get away from MT4. MT4 broker are in major marketmaker and there are just to many serveradded tools from the broker to make the client loose. I am not saying that my loosing trades are broker fault but since I want to get serious about trading trading on the “real” market is the next logical step and away from those marketmakers.
That is why I wanted to change to NT+ IB since NT isn’t that much different on the programming to MT4.
Since I am new on NT I will have a lot of noob questions and I already excuse myself here it this might be to annoying for you.
I want to rewrite my EA on FX and DAX-CFD to FX-NT and DAX-Future.
Since I have never traded the real futures I will definitely have questions here. It would be nice if someone can show me an noob link what I have to consider changing from cfd to future.
I remember and was actually just recently wondering if you ever got it working. But that's for a different thread Glad to have you and I look forward to your posts.
Intermediate trader.Emini S & P. Moved from Tradestation to Ninja Trader very recent and just like a new car learning how to drive it!
Really trying to figure out how to get my hands on that indicator Mike has I believe it is the "visual multi-time frame scoring" but not exactly sure. It is the one that moves between his price action changing from red to blue with momentum. Anyone who knows would be great!!!
Have been lurking here for quite a while taking in some great info from the forum and Mike's blog. Though it was about time I actually made a post and said hello to everyone.
Thanks for a great forum. Have been a discretion trader. Of late got interested in Automated Trading Systems. Will share info once I grasp some concetps and do some testing..Thanks.
