Good or bad - please provide feedback on the 'search' feature. Is it improved? Is it finding what you want? Is it not?
I still have a lot planned to improve it, but I need feedback on what has been done so far. Maybe it's just that it is working great and therefore no one is complaining?
I am working to have a detailed expansion for each result so you see the highlighted post fragment in relation to your search. You also should be able to re-sort based on rank or recency. Last, I am working so the Downloads section will be included in results. Right now, attachments to posts are already being included. That is why I removed the old feature to search attachments, it's built-in to the search now.
I fiddled with the search a bit and I find it to work really well and I have to say the Search functionality used to be my least liked feature of fio before changes.
My testing experience today:
artemiso
I searched for "artemiso", "user:artemiso". The results of the first and second are quite different even though both searches find posts authored by him. The threads listed in results to the first are often not in the results for the second term and vice versa. I dont know whether this is expected or not, I just find it interesting.
order book skewness
I searched for "order book skewness" and """order book skewness""" (with apostrophes to make it look like one string to be searched for). It seems the forum doesnt have anything about this topic, which is no problem. The results for the first search term are 41 threads that are not related to skewness. Im pondering whether it would be better to not show stuff that is related to the search term only vaguely. Searching for the second term finds only 4 threads and I don't see why they are shown.
I thinkg most peeps are happy with how search works, if they weren't happy, they would compain and tell you
Made an improvement regarding search. Now from any page, anywhere on the page (ie: middle of thread), you can type the / forward-slash key and it will invoke the search menu.
The targeting of : columns is not yet working well. Also, you don't have to put quotes around phrases. By default, search will prioritize when multiple words are matched in order, followed by matched almost (near by) order, and last matched partially like two out of three words found.
Please keep up the feedback. Try the new / key to invoke search faster as well.
I hit Ctrl-F5 to reload cache on Chrome, then openened the forum as a Guest in chrome, then opened the forum in Edge and in all cases hitting '/' (between * and NumLock) doesn't produce any event for me.
Gotcha ... it does when I hit the slash next to R-Shift Can the event be added to the numeric slash too?
