Found it, thanks. At first glance, a few observations:
a) No value area highlighting, VAH/VAL
b) No VPOC label
c) VPOC seems to be wrong, the correct VPOC for Dec ES this week is 2049.25 but best I can tell from eyeballing your chart (since there is no label for VPOC) you are calculating it at anywhere between 2046 and 2047.50.
The default session times are wrong, but since I am doing the entire week-to-date it shouldn't matter.
I am using a 5-minute chart, but I believe you said that VP would be correctly calculated from the underlying 1-tick data.
As a Volume Profile trader, I need at minimum VAH/VAL shading with optional labels, and VPOC label. Precision in the label output should be same as underlying, so 0.25 here.
Also "lookback period" is not useful for me, I always want (depending on the chart) a current session VP, a current weekly session VP, or a current monthly session VP.
You can set the exchange time as you have found, and it is also possible to set the session time for the chart. To do this right click on a bar in the chart then from the Properties menu (pencil icon) select Data File Properties > Session Times.
In relation to Volume we have the volume indicator and it is also possible to add a coloured volume overlay to bar/ candlestick charts. To do this right click on a bar then from the Properties menu (pencil icon) set the Colour Scheme to Coloured Volume.
In relation to the crash you experienced, is this still occurring or did it appear to be random? If MA8 does generate a bug report then a copy of the file will be saved in the following folder, e.g. bugreport-20120222104005.txt
The current volume at price/ market profile tool isn't of much use to traders who look at Volume distributions. There are some changes that need to be made, however the framework is already in place.
If you look at the market profile tool it's setup the same as SC's "Draw volume profile"- so you can create custom profiles. However it's currently based around a TPO profile using a Steidlmayer distribution. It needs to be changed to a volume profile that uses a normal distribution.
There's also a tool called "Sequential market profile", which plots daily TPO profiles, this needs to be changed to calculate daily Volume profiles. The same would then need to be coded for weekly and monthly profiles.
Then Market Analyst would have a fully functional volume profile suite.
"Free markets work because they allow people to be lucky, thanks to aggressive trial and error, not by giving rewards or incentives for skill. The strategy is, then, to tinker as much as possible and try to collect as many Black Swan opportunities as you can"
Got this email just now. Definitely unfortunate, as it seems to indicate the MA website or their customer email list was possibly compromised in some fashion.
Maybe someone from MA can comment.
The zip file came back as HEUR.VBA trojan, but only 1 hit out of 55.
I checked the email header against legit emails from MA, and they aren't bothering to spoof the origin. MA does have valid DKIM and SPF records.
While I'm glad they have this notice up on the site, it would have been better to proactively notify customers by email the instant this was discovered. Unfortunately, many of them aren't computer savvy enough to avoid being a victim of these scenarios.
Received this today from MA. Wow, it really sucks it was a cryptolocker, that means everyone needs to blow away their system and revert to their last backup. For me, that is only a few hours old -- but I imagine for most people, they don't have one at all.
Another option i recommend is trading on separate systems, my workstation only access the net for execution and of course Big Mike is right always have a redundancy system in place, just incase.
