I totally understand your predicament. My trading is also fully automated and there isn't 'technically' anything left for me to do during the trading day. It's a double-edged sword because boredom can cause you to "mess with a good thing". Hence, I'm constantly creating and testing new ideas to keep me busy in my development environment that is separate from my production environment. This helps prevent me from tinkering with my system
8 Trades total for April. 5W and 3L. Took in 10,128.98 for the month.
Looking back, @Sazon is correct on me getting irritated by boredom. But realized that Low number of trading does not mean unprofitable. Only 7 months into serious system trading but I am learning and taking in a lot of things. Temptation of overriding system can only be reduced(IMHO) by having profitable periods of time. See it, feel it and accept it. Then I have an ally to fight the temptation and keep myself away from entering self sabotage mode.
1 trade had 1 tick slippage. Current balance is around 59k. Working on hitting target 7.
Second and final boost. Here is current account level.
Balance: 60k
# of contract: 12
Play/risk Money: 48k(4k per car X 12)
Margin Money: 1k per car. 12 X 1000=12,000
Total risk: Original wired fund(2,5000)-12,000(Margin Money)=13,000
Boost it with 20k on the side. (Available for immediate transfer if needed)
Balance: 80,000
# of contract: 16
Play/risk money: 64,000
Margin money: 1k per car. 16 X 1000=16,000
Total risk: 25,000(original risk)+20,000(Boost)-16,000=29,000
For a 25%(12 cars to 16 cars) increase of position sizing, I need to increase my current risk by 123%(13,000 to 29,000=16,000) Which is 16% increase from original risk(25k)
Targets remain the same. No adding cars until account hits 85000.
At 80k, pull back 20k
At 40k, send in 10k
Has been reached. (Error on previous post. Said working on target 7 but I meant target 8. 7 has been completed on 4/18.
Account crossed over 65k level. Moving onto next target(9) at 70k.
Only 2 trades so far in month of May.
System is trading without problems and I believe I have gotten over the boredom. No manual trades, no noticeable urges to report since late April.
I planned out total of 4 stages with multiple targets. I remember saying to myself when I was designing the plan. "You ain't even gonna pass target 2. You will f' it up somehow"...but here I am. About half way to complete the first stage of my plan. This is also the FIRST time I have ever followed the Rules which I have set. It was tough to see when system was losing 7 trades in a row, but I manage to stick with it.
Created a new system to capture trends. It is different than the system I am currently trading. Lower probability but higher win/loss ratio. Boosted 20k is coming back for now. But I may use the boost again in near future. I can not say for sure but I believe diversification may help my chances of survival in this game.
Original system's total investment is reduced from 65000 to 30,000.
Maxrisk/play money per unit:4,000
Margin :1,000
total: 5,000 per unit.
30,000/5000=6 unit of risk.
Will add additional unit for every 5,000 profit.
Second system's total investment: 35,000
Max risk/play money: 6,000
Margin: 1,000
Total: 7,000 per unit.
35,000/7000=5 unit of risk.
Will add additional unit for every 7,000 profit.
PS. Do you have any advice on running multiple strategies on one future contract in Ninjatrader 8? What to watch out for or issues? Any thoughts or advises are appreciated.
System traded where it supposed to. Three trades. All stopped out but also out where it supposed to be at.
To lighten up the load, I have broke down strategies into single pieces. 5 separate strategies. 3 buys and 2 sells. Not sure if Ninjatrader fixed the issue but I have had strategies not firing and firing at wrong time when I started last year. Simple solution to it was divide them and run it seperately.
Spent sometime in developing a strategy for oil but man...CL is also very tough nut to crack and I think 2 ticks slippage on every trades needs to be considered for possible slippage when it moves crazy. More on this later.
I could be wrong about this but I don't think ninjatrader is capable of more than one strategy per instrument per account, otherwise there would be a conflict with synchronizing with the account, no?
