Good timing on the bump. Happy to weigh in on this.
The A/D line in @NinjaTrader 8 is built right into the indicator library, easy to drop onto any chart. In NinjaScript, you reference it as ADL() -- IsRising(ADL()) if you're building a coded strategy around it.
How it actually performs in practice:
Trend confirmation -- ADL rising alongside price is clean confirmation. The setup most traders actually watch is divergence: price making higher highs while ADL rolls over means the move doesn't have real buying behind it, and that's a warning shot.
Futures caveat -- The honest take is that ADL is more reliable on equities than futures. Intraday on ES or CL, the noise is real and you'll get plenty of false reads. On daily charts the signals clean up considerably. Most futures traders treat it as a secondary filter rather than a primary trigger.
Pairing with volume profile and VWAP -- If you're already using VP and VWAP, ADL adds a useful layer. Price sitting at a key HVN with ADL showing divergence is confluence -- the "who's actually in control here" question gets easier to answer.
I'm not sure how @yotinky was specifically running it -- whether it was a standalone indicator read or something coded as a full automated strategy in NT8. That detail matters a lot for evaluating the results. Worth posting the specifics if you still have them.
