I'm fed up with corporate life and am looking for a way to make a few extra bucks if I take early retirement. Ive been dabbling in the stock markets for years--buying and holding mostly NYSE and nasdaq stocks. What really intrigues me is the daily fluctuations of certain stocks that I follow. ie NOK. I feel that I am missing out on all those opportunities to buy and sell on those daily price changes. Thus my interest in learning about day trading.--basically how to do it--and thats why Im here.
Im in the process of opening an account with IB and I am willing to allocate 30K for day trading purposes--with a goal of netting an average of 100$ per trading day--I assume this is a reasonable objective--am I right?
I still don't know the ins and outs of trading platforms--cost of those platforms etc....--so im really starting from ground zero.
Ill be reading through the various stuff on this great site and expect to be asking a lot of stupid (newbie) questions in the future.
take care
BTW anyone here doing day trading in bangkok? i'd love to do be doing the "over the shoulder" thing
I live in Brazil and i started to use a robot that i wrote. Since ninja was the best free program to do that, some question and doubts have come to me. So, Big Mike´s is helping me to solve these questions and become a better player.
Mike, great forum. I am a former PM assistant who left the firm because of a disagreement regarding the current (2011) market structure. They were an old school type of firm and believed markets are efficient and that Gordon Growth models are accurate. I'm amazed they actually make money.
I started my own blog as a means to record what I would learn about the new market dynamics. The blog alone has lead to solid relationships with Haim Bodek's, Nanex LLC, Steve Hammer at HFT Alert, Themis Trading, and a writing spot at Zerohedge.
With all that I still wanted interaction with more like minded folks. I found futures.io (formerly BMT) through a google search for ToS codes. I like their free charting and since the data they use comes from Nanex, I know I can trust the feed....hear that NYSE!?
I'm hell bent on destroying the expert networks that exchanges and powerful HFT firms have created. The special order types available to certain traders at certain times that are not publicly known must end. For others, sitting on the sideline might be all they aspire to. As for me and our group, we won't stop until the entity we are funding with our taxes begins to do the job we pay them to do. The SEC has sat around and watched Brazzers long enough.
Thank you for the forum Mike and I greatly appreciate your drive to maintain a legit collective of people and that this isn't a half ass forum full of misinformation. Kudos Sir! I look forward to learning some more from the community and I look forward to offering info/service to others. GoodLuck all!
Hi there. My name is Alex and I am a newbie at this forum. Been watching webinars over the last week, awesome value. I have been trading FX for over 3 years on daily basis, this is not my main occupation but moving there. Traded fx futures at some point during the news events, but had better results with retail FX brokers. Been succesful news trader, but less so technical. Lately after spending a year trying to develop and perfect a reliable scalping system on EURUSD given it up, no so much because of nature of FX but rather because of 5 digit broker data feed. Even though it made costs go down a lot (I had a great broker with average spread on EU around 0.4 pips and commissions around 0.5 pips) liquidity is spread through a 10 times more point making any entry with a stop order being a lottery and patterns and formations never having reliable borders and not giving reliable entry points. So I moved onto futures with 4 digit system and more transparent pricing and only trade FX from a longer term point of view plus daily manipulation moves from M15 charts (one trade a day max). Currently mostly on demo to get a decent feel for the system before I move back to a live account that waits me funded.
Contemplating about doing a Combine with TST, not sure though if I need their membership.

Hi Everyone.. My name is Tony and I've been trading Futures for a few years with mixed results.. I see that that there is a lot to read and absorb here and I will do that and take my time.
I don't believe in making posts just for the sake of it or to gain counts. I have a lot to study and read first..
Take care and good luck everyone

Hi, I'm Eduardo. I always have been interested in the markets, I used to have a managed account with American Skandia as custodian, that was more than 10 years ago. With that I bought a house. But since then I've been still curious about investments. So I started to check about how to enter the markets in my own country. After a lot of research, I found it to be very expensive in regards of commissions and fees. Suddenly I had the crazy idea to look into the US market, and researched a little more, and found out about NinjaTrader.
This tool practically changed my life. I got interested in Futures. And learned a lot from the CME group page. I have been reading, studying and understanding topics related to the market from the last 6 months. But 3 months back, I found this forum. A totally out of this world place, with an incredible and most valuable information that any new and not so new trader will definitely benefit.
This is actually my first post. And I've read a great number of threads, that when loading up the home page literally picks my attention and start reading, learning, with an open mind and understand the different stand points, perspectives, experiences, opinions... its just... amazing
I encourage anyone to continue reading, there's a lot to check out. I do believe there's more value here in this forum, than most of the expensive courses that are out there.
The webinars!!! my goodness!! the webinars!!! please do check them out. They are very valuable!!!
There are also incredible people here, the most valued assets this place can have, their knowledge and experience will practically overwhelm anyone.
Be prepared to have an open mindset, it's going to be an exciting journey!!!
