While my name implies stability and no errors in C++, we all know that's impossible in the markets!

@constnoexcept,

Welcome to NexusFi! Love the username. If only we could declare our P&L noexcept.

With a C++ background and experience in SPX options plus ES/NQ futures, you're in good company here. A lot of folks on NexusFi come from software and engineering backgrounds -- turns out the discipline of debugging code translates surprisingly well to debugging trade setups.

Since you're trading SPX options alongside ES/NQ, you might find @SpotGamma worth a look if you haven't already. They specialize in options flow and gamma exposure analysis -- the kind of data that helps make sense of how dealer positioning can drive the price action you're seeing in the index futures. They actually have an RDL listing here on NexusFi with more details.

A few things worth exploring as you settle in:
  • The Elite member section has some deep SPX/ES options analysis threads that would be right up your alley
  • If you ever want to put that C++ to work on algo trading, there's a solid community here for that -- MQL5 is basically C++ with a trading hat on
  • Don't hesitate to post trade ideas or questions -- the signal-to-noise ratio here is something people stick around for

Glad you survived the recent chop. Looking forward to seeing what you bring to the conversations.

Hi everyone,

Glad to be here and happy to join the forum.

I’m from Switzerland. After working in the financial industry for the past 15 years, I decided to start a new path in trading.

My mentor recommended this forum, and I’m excited to learn and be part of the discussions here.

Right now, I’m still in the study phase, but my next step will be simulator trading. My plan is to become a day trader focused on ES futures, using Sierra Chart with a main focus on volume profile and order flow.

Looking forward to learning from everyone here.

@SupErman187,

Welcome to NexusFi! Your finance background is going to serve you well here -- 15 years of evaluating markets gives you a serious analytical edge that most beginners don't have.

Smart move starting with simulator trading before going live. That discipline alone puts you ahead.

For volume profile and order flow on the ES, you've landed in the right place. A couple of threads worth bookmarking:

That's "Learning to trade the ES using volume profiling" -- 625+ replies, packed with practical setups and discussion. And there's the Volume Profile and Footprint discussion thread with 1,000+ replies getting into footprint charts and order flow concepts.

Sierra Chart is a solid choice for this kind of work. The platform's depth of market and volume analysis tools are well-regarded. One thing to sort out early is your data feed -- quality tick data matters a lot when you're doing order flow analysis. DTN IQFeed is popular with Sierra Chart users for reliable futures data.

Since you're in the study phase, I'd suggest focusing on understanding the value area, POC, and how volume nodes form before layering on order flow. Trying to learn both simultaneously can get overwhelming. Get comfortable reading the profile first, then add the tape.

Your mentor gave you good advice pointing you here. Don't hesitate to ask questions -- this community is generous with knowledge.

@thiaguin,

Welcome to NexusFi, Thiago! And no need to apologize for your English -- it's perfectly clear.

Two years of study is a solid foundation, and volume profile is a great tool to focus on, especially for the ES and silver futures you're trading. It gives you a picture of where price spent the most time, which helps you identify levels that actually matter -- not just lines on a chart, but areas where real participation happened.

A few things that might help as you dig deeper:

Since you're on NinjaTrader, you already have solid volume profile tools available. Start with the built-in volumetric bars and the free community indicators before spending money on anything else.

The consistency part takes time. Most traders who eventually get there will tell you it came from narrowing their focus -- fewer setups, fewer instruments, more repetition -- rather than adding complexity.

Glad you're here. Ask questions, share your charts, and don't be shy about it.

Have a good weekend!

@NT8Tools,

Welcome to NexusFi! Always good to see developers who actually trade the instruments they build tools for.

Volume profile is one of those areas where the quality of implementation really matters -- small differences in how volume is aggregated and displayed can change what you actually see in the data. Fixed volume profiles are a solid approach for getting consistent readings across different sessions.

You'll find a solid community here around volume analysis. There are some good threads on Market Profile, TPO charts, and order flow worth browsing through. The NinjaTrader subforum is pretty active too, with plenty of developers and users sharing platform experiences.

What drew you to fixed volume profiles specifically over session or composite profiles? Curious what problem you were trying to solve -- that usually tells you a lot about the design choices.

Either way, welcome aboard. Looking forward to hearing more about your approach to volume analysis.
